Flint, MI—Sloan Museum, Flint’s premier destination for local history and hands-on science exhibits, announces a new special events schedule for summer 2016. Kicking off with a craft fair in partnership with Flint Handmade, the summer line-up includes kid-friendly activities, a lunchtime lecture about The Beatles’ “Paul is dead” conspiracy, Flint Handmade craft classes for adults, and more. Sloan Museum’s summer programming includes the following event series:
Event: Critters, Crafts and Story Time
Date: Saturdays, June 4, July 2, and August 6, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Cost: $5 per person, advance registration required.
Activity: Bring your little explorer out for a fun morning of bug-themed stories and crafts. Each session will have a different story and activity. Then visit the giant bugs in A Bug's World, Sloan Museum’s newest exhibit!


Event: Summer Shindig Craft Fair
Date: Friday, June 10, 5-9 p.m.
Cost: $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

ivity: Kick off your summer with a craft fair in Sloan Museum’s courtyard, presented in collaboration with Flint Handmade. Vehicle City Tacos will have tacos for sale, and a cash bar will be available.

Event: Sloan Museum’s 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Celebration
Date: Wednesday, June 22, 5:30-8 p.m.
Ages: 21+
Cost: $50 per person
Activity: Celebrate Sloan Museum’s 50th anniversary and witness the unveiling of two historic vehicles recently added to the museum’s collection. Four other cars from the 1950s era will also be on display. All proceeds from this VIP event go toward the purchase and conservation of vehicles in Sloan Museum’s auto collection. Ticket price includes heavy hors d'oeuvres, one drink, and a ticket to Sloan Museum Auto Fair. The first 50 ticket-holders will receive a free trial Friends of Sloan*Longway membership. Cash bar available. Presented by Friends of Sloan*Longway.

Event: Quite Crafty Series
Date: Thursdays, June 23, July 28, August 25. Doors at 5:30 p.m., class from 6-8 p.m.
Ages: 18+
Cost: $35 per class, materials included. Advance registration required.
Activity: Flint Handmade instructors will take you through a project from start to finish. Enjoy a glass of wine and a night out with your girlfriends. Cash bar available.
June 23, Glass Painting: Customize a wine glass with acrylic paint.
July 28, Block Printing: Learn how to carve stamps and make printed accessories and paper goods.
August 28, Fabric Garland Making: Create fun summer décor with just fabric strips and twine.

Event: Summer Soiree
Date: Saturday, July 9, 6-10 p.m.
Ages: 18+
Cost: $5 in advance, $7 at the door.
Activity: Stroll through Sloan Museum’s beautiful enclosed courtyard and enjoy an elegant night out of shopping, food, and drinks with your best friends.

Event: Paul is Dead: The Great Beatles Death Conspiracy’s Michigan Roots
Date: Tuesday, July 12, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Ages: 18+
Cost: $10, lunch included.
Activity: Open your mind to one of pop culture’s most baffling conspiracies. If you believe the conspiracy theory, it was 50 years ago that Paul McCartney died in a car crash and was replaced by a lookalike. Sloan*Longway Curator of Collections Jeremy Dimick will take you through the clues in The Beatles lyrics and album art, both plausible and outlandish, and discuss the Michigan roots of this far-reaching phenomenon.

Event: Family Fun Night at Sloan Museum
Date: Saturday, July 23, 5:30-9:30 p.m.
Ages: 18+
Cost: $8 adults, $6 youth. For members: $7 adults, $6 youth. Advance registration required.
Activity: Bring your family out for a night of games and fun at Sloan Museum. We will have games set up in both the museum and the courtyard for your family to enjoy! Play Tic-Tac-Toe in the courtyard or Candy Land inside the museum, and then explore the new exhibit, A Bug’s World! Tickets include a slice of pizza and a drink. Additional food will be available for purchase.

Museum hours are Monday- Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 12-5 p.m. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for seniors (60+), $6 for youth ages 2-11, and free for children 1 and under.
