Three Updates from the August 2018 CAFP Board Meeting
  • The Board discussed concerns over the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently proposed changes to E/M payments at length. A letter was sent to the AAFP, and members were activated to give feedback to CMS.
  • CAFP's Primary Care Investment Initiative continues to make strides. A new report from the Center for Improving Value in Healthcare has accomplished the important first step of assessing primary care spend in Colorado. Stayed tuned for more information about what this report has shown.
  • The CAFP office has taken several steps to be more environmentally friendly. This includes becoming solar powered, updating to more efficient lighting, and a more efficient heating and cooling system. These steps will result in a net savings in energy bills over time, allowing us to remain responsible stewards of your membership dues.

CAFP Endorses 48 Candidates for Colorado House and Senate
Through our Small Donor Committee, CAFP endorsed 48 candidates for the 2018 election. CAFP endorsed candidates from both political parties based upon their support for CAFP’s agenda including priorities to double the investment in primary care and protect a stable malpractice environment. CAFP President Zach Wachtl, MD, President-Elect John Cawley, MD and CAFP Board members hosted a reception with 32 candidates for the Colorado State House and Senate. Look for an email later this month with information on the candidates CAFP endorsed. Election day is Tuesday, November 6th.

Proposed CMS Changes to Medicare Fee Schedule, E/M Documentation
Medicare recently proposed changes to E/M payments. The proposal collapses E/M codes 99212-99215 and 99202-99205 into single levels of service and pays one rate of $93 and $135 respectively.

We are urging the AAFP to vigorously oppose this proposal from CMS, and will be conveying our opposition directly to CMS. We encourage you to voice your own thoughts to CMS. The website to submit comments to CMS can be found here »
