Medicaid Alternative Payment: Pick Your Quality Measures Today
Colorado Medicaid is implementing an Alternative Payment Model for Primary Care (APM), which offers practices up to a 4% payment enhancement on top of FFS reimbursements. Select your baseline measures in the survey today. The survey will remain open through January 31, 2018. Medicaid will use the survey to refine the APM model. The survey will also help practices identify the measures they are likely to be successful on. APM Measures align with MACRA and other payment reform efforts. SIM and CPC+ practices do not have to select measures.

APM Implementation Workgroup
As the Department moves forward with the APM, a workgroup is forming to assist with its implementation. The Department is looking for representation from primary care physicians, primary care practice coordinators, and office managers. The group would provide feedback and input on how best to implement the APM.

The time commitment would be one 60-90 minute meeting every other month. A kick-off meeting was held on November 20th from 12-1pm and the next meeting is scheduled for January 8, 2018. Meetings will be scheduled every other month thereafter. There will be a call-in option for those unable to attend in person.

If you have questions about the survey or are interested in participating in the Implementation Workgroup please send an email to the APM inbox,

Pharmaceutical Shortages
Due to Hurricane Maria, which hit Puerto Rico in October, several drug shortages have occurred or worsened. 7 of the top 10 drugs globally are manufactured in Puerto Rico. The IV Saline shortage has been among the most well-known in recent months, with 90 drugs on the FDA’s shortage monitoring list due to the hurricane. You can access a statement by the FDA Commissioner and find up-to-date information on current shortages on the FDA’s website.
