Thankful for all my blessings

This is the week for giving thanks and I hope I do that every week. I frequently think about how lucky I am to have my wonderful wife Robin and to have had caring, nuturing and supportive parents. I'm always thankful for having great support from family and friends. The outpouring since I've opened my gallery has been tremendous, it is great to know that people care. I appreciate it so much. Now send more rich friends over to buy big prints! Please do stop by when you are in the area. The gallery is open Wednesdays through Sundays and is at 2493 Lamington Rd, Bedminster, NJ.
Machu Picchu and Peru in 2021

The November 2021 trip to Peru and Machu Picchu is set and I'm really excited. We'll be photographing the area around the famous landmark and spend a couple of days at Macchu Pichu. We're lucky to have perhaps the best guide in Peru to show us the famous sites and take us to little known areas that will make for unique photos. It promises to be a fantastic trip, you can get more info at https://lorenphotos.com/mevents/machu-picchu-and-peru-photography-workshop/

Also in 2021 will be trips to Iceland, Vietnam and Croatia.
Holiday lights in the big city
New York City glimmers all year but it really shines during the holiday season. There are so many places to make pictures but getting there can be overwhelming. That's why I got my Sprinter van, I can load it up with photographers and move a lot of people around. I'm doing an NYC Christmas Lights Photography Workshop on Saturday, Dec. 14, and we'll hit some of the major spots for great holiday pictures. Love those bald eagles
I have to admit that when it comes to seeing bald eagles, I'm like a little kid. There is something about their power and grace that fascinates me. No matter where I am or what I'm doing, I stop and watch an eagle fly around. When I can get close enough to make photographs I'm yelling and screaming. Hopefully I hold it in a little bit when other people are around but inside me is a big party. There's a place in northern Maryland where eagles congregate this time of year, so I'm loading up the van and taking a group down on Dec. 9. I've counted 150 eagles there and I'm hoping there will be a bunch flying around this time. Winter indoor photography series
I did a fun thing last winter that I'm bringing back again. It is a series of two hour workshops designed to keep our photography skills fresh during the winter when it is harder to get out and shoot. This winter it will be four classes and there will be assignments to shoot for each session. They won't be anything too tough but the assignments are designed to make you think a bit and really get a better understanding of your camera. The sessions are a lot of fun and we have some great discussions. It is exciting to see the creative photos that you make. The evening sessions are Jan. 13, Jan. 27, Feb. 11 and Feb. 25 and the day sessions are Jan. 14, Jan. 28, Feb. 11, Feb. 25. You can come to the series in Bedminster, NJ, or participate live online via my video conferencing service. Being online is just like being here except you can be in your pajamas but you don't get any of my M&Ms. All the sessions are recorded so you can watch them online if you need to miss one. I hope you can join the fun and keep the rust off your photographic brain.
Talking about photo gadgets
Please don't tell my wife, but I'm a bit of a gadget hound. I'll be the first to tell you that the equipment doesn't make the photographer but it sure is fun to have toys to play with. I'm doing a free seminar Dec. 17 where we'll talk about gadgets and gear that makes photography easier, more accessible or more fun. Some things are cheap or DIY and some ain't. It will be a lot of fun and you can attend in person or live online using my video conferencing service. Photographing Christmas lights

Christmas lights can look great but they aren't always easy to make a good photo. We often get overwhelmed by the vastness or magnificence of the lights and try to make a picture that shows everything we see. We end up with a wide shot with not much in it. Especially when shooting the small lights that wrap around a tree, getting them to look like anything is tricky. The most important thing is to have a good, solid center of interest. If you just have a bunch of lights it won't look like much without a strong focal point. Be sure to use your tripod and keep it steady so you can get some ambient light in the surroundings. And shoot at f/11 or f/16 to make point sources of light have that nice star burst.
