| | I know people are pretty hesitant to do much traveling this summer, I understand the concerns. I've been hanging out in Vermont since this started and people are vigilant but feel rather safe because the virus hasn't been as devastating here. I hope to have several Vermont events this summer so people can hop in their cars and get here with a day's drive or less. My long planned June Night Skies and Light Painting Workshop and the Vermont Getaway and Creativity Workshop are looking like they are unlikely to happen in Vermont unless the 14 day quarantine rule is repealed soon. But there is hope. Nearby New Hampshire announced yesterday they are allowing out of staters starting June 5, so I'm scurrying to move Vermont workshops 15 miles east and hold them in New Hampshire. I'm scouting hotels/motels and there are plenty of great places to shoot. Obviously if it isn't safe I won't do any workshops but I'm extremely confident that with physical distancing and car pooling we can get out and make some great photos this summer while putting the craziness out of our minds for a little while. |

Let me know what you are thinking Like many businesses, mine is in total disarray. I love taking photographers to exciting International locations or loading people into my 12-passenger Sprinter van and going to great places in the Northeast. But I’m having a hard time planning the next year and your feedback can greatly help. Please take a couple of minutes to answer 10 quick questions. I appreciate your help. https://lorenphotos.com/2020/05/27/i-need-your-feedback/ |

It's all about being dumb and lucky I love when when great planning comes together to create a good picture. I love even more when dumb planning and incredible luck combine to create a special image. I was out shooting star trails over a Vermont pond recently and lined up a cool looking shot. I planned on getting some good reflections from the trees I was lighting with my flashlight in the water. Star trails are essentially very long exposures and the stars blur due to the earth’s rotation. This photo was made in a period of 2 hours and 45 minutes, but rather than being one shot it is about 275 photos that were 30 seconds long each. They are then assembled with software to show the movement of the stars. I added some light to the trees so there is a nice foreground and I knew I’d have a pretty cool shot. As I’m sitting out in the dark the International Space Station flew over. It is always fun to see it streak past but this time it looked like it was going to be in my shot. About 90 minutes later it came by again, this time lower in the sky and not as bright. Hey, I might catch that one too, I thought. When I put the photo together I was thrilled to see the ISS flew right in front of Polaris, which is the star the others rotate around. Now that is cool. Plus I have the second ISS pass lower in the shot. Conditions were great for night photography in Vermont so there are many more photos on my blog. |
| | Iceland is the place to be this summerIt looks like Iceland will be one of the safest places to be this summer. They only have two active Covid-19 cases in the whole country and 10 total deaths. They been testing people even before the virus was in the country and has been a model for dealing with the virus. They also announced they are screening every person arriving in the country starting June 15. When you arrive at the airport you’ll get tested and the results will come back the next day and you’ll be allowed to travel. They haven’t released details on how they are pulling this off, where people will be quarantined and what happens if you don’t pass the test but it seems like a great plan. I have a workshop scheduled there in August and it looks to be a great getaway. There are still some openings. |
| | 1/2 price mentoring special ending June 15
Working with other photographers one-on-one is a lot of fun, it is exciting to see how fast results happen. During the crisis I dropped my price by 50% for mentoring and coaching and there has been a great response. I have people working on getting to know their camera, composition, lighting, post processing in Lightroom and Photoshop and getting their photo business rolling. But all good and bad things must come to an end so I'm ending the special pricing on June 15. Read more about it at https://lorenphotos.com/workshops/photographer-mentoring/ |
| | Catch the replays if you missed it live
I've been doing quite a few free seminars online during the lockdown, they've been a lot of fun and there has been a good crowd. If you missed any you can watch them at https://lorenphotos.com/category/seminar-videos/ Paid workshops that were online are now available at https://lorenphotos.com/product-category/on-demand-workshop-video/. There will be more seminars and workshops coming, like an HDR Photography workshop starting next week. |
| | Weekly photography chat sessionJust talking about photography can be therapeutic so I'm hosting a Zoom chat session each Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. EDT. There is no format and we just talk about whatever photo things anyone wants to bring up. Just no politics or religion! It's a lot of fun and I'll do it as long people want to sign on, perhaps even after the lockdown is over. They are always at the same address: https://zoom.us/j/9082293447. Join us! |
