I have a new website look It always takes longer than I think it will but I finally have redesigned my website www.LorenPhotos.com. It now has larger photos, especially the home page, a simpler interface that makes viewing my galleries easier and it is more mobile friendly. There are still a couple of tweaks I am making so if you see anything that doesn't look quite right, please let me know. Any comments are always welcome. |
| | | Mentor program running again I haven't officially offered mentoring for a couple of years, so it is time to kick it back into gear. I love working one-on-one with photographers and this is a great way for me to help photographers get to the next level, no matter their current skill set. I am doings sessions live, either in person or via online video chat, whichever works best for the photographer. Read more... |
| | Eclipse and Provence photo workshops nearly full |
| | I'm really excited about my destination photography workshops this summer in Oregon and Provence, France. I'm working with photographer Ron Lake as we explore the beauty and color of Provence, France. Read more about the Provence workshop. He is taking us to great locations, like the one in his photo above, that you just can't find unless you've been there many times, like Ron.
After France I'm leading a workshop in Oregon that ends with the total eclipse of the sun. I did a ton of research to determine where the least likely place along the path of the eclipse would be for clouds that day and it is the high desert of eastern Oregon. So that is where we are going! We'll start the workshop at the ocean for a couple of days and then head inland. It will be a special adventure. Read more about the workshop.
Of course, I'll be having my annual Vermont Fall Foliage Photography Workshop, from Oct. 9-13. October is a special time of year in Vermont and this workshop always sells out, so don't hesitate.
I'm hosting many local workshops in Somerville, NJ, like Beyond the Basics, Black & White and night photography. Keep up with all of my workshops at www.LorenPhotos.com/workshops

| | Boston area is first art show of the seasonI'm heading to Marlborough, MA, this weekend for the big Paradise City Arts Festival. It is my first time at the show but they featured me in their large magazine-style show preview guide. It is fun to be the only photographer featured, hopefully it brings a crowd to my booth all weekend! The summer is looking pretty full, I'm planning on doing 24 shows this year, that eats up a lot of weekends. Keep track of my schedule on my website, wwwLorenPhotos.com. |

Photographing moving water Now that the snow is melting and rivers are running strong, it is a great time to photograph moving water. If you can find a nice big waterfall, then it is even better, like this one in Oregon. We'll stop here during my Solar Eclipse workshop in August. But if you aren't in Oregon, even a small brook can be made to look nice and creamy by using a slow shutter speed. Typically you need at least a two second exposure to make water look smooth, but it depends on how fast the water is moving. For this shot I used a 1 second exposure because the water was moving so fast, after all it is the tallest waterfall in the U.S. Try some photos of breaking waves at dusk and when you can get a 10 second or longer exposure you'll get some surprising results.
