Some days it just all comes together
We get a good deal of snow in Vermont and I love to photograph it as much as I can. I love the way a thick blanket of snow makes the world a softer and quieter place. Many times I stomp around or drive the backroads taking in the beauty but don't see anything that makes a special pictures. One day at the end of February was different. Throughout the day was a steady snowfall accumulating 8-10 inches by the time it was done. There was already snow on the ground so it just added to the beauty.

Kelly, who works at my gallery, has a gorgeous farm with a large red barn and smaller building. Since I hadn't photographed it, I headed that way. I went past a sugar shack and made some fun photos of it in the woods and then proceeded to the farm. The barn is amazing and made for some great shots. Out in a field across the road from the barn is a horse sculpture Kelly had bought for her husband on their anniversary. I had seen it many times and tried to photograph it over the years but never got anything I liked. But today was one of those days and all the elements came together.

It seemed like everything I shot that day worked. I think I got more keepers in those few hours than the rest of the winter. I wish I knew why that happens and find a way to bottle it and share with others. But creativity is like that, there are times I get in a zone and everything works and at other others times nothing works. Check out my blog post and see more photos from the day.
Raffle to support the people of Ukraine
At my gallery in Woodstock, Vt, we are raffling a sunflower photo to raise money to support the people of Ukraine. The image was made by co-owner Bob Wagner and is printed as a 30X30 inch canvas. We've raised over $1500 so far and have sent that money over there already. The raffle ends April 15. Tickets are $10 each and 100% of the money we collect goes to a great organization supporting the refugees. You can enter the raffle or just donate at https://focusvermont.com/product/sunflower-raffle-for-ukraine/
International workshops are back
I don't need to tell you Covid messed up a lot of things including many photo workshops. But travel is back and so are my international workshops. Iceland is in August and it is sold out but I'm going back again in Feb. I'm especially excited to go to Peru and the magical Machu Picchu Nov. 6-13. It will be a special trip, I'm partnering with a friend, Sarah McGarghan, who has been there many times and is co-owner of a Peru-based travel company. Our local guide is one of the best in the country and we'll hit the must-see sights and also get off the beaten path and photograph places you can't find on your own. There are still some seats available. Click here for more info.

And next year, March 9-22, I'm teaming with Sarah again to visit Vietnam. This much-postponed trip is finally coming together. We are focusing on the northern and central part of the country where the landscapes are magnificent and the people are welcoming.  See more about the workshop.

Vermont Night Skies and Light Painting Workshops
If you don't want to leave the country, come to Vermont! I'm hosting night workshops in May, June, July and August. I love getting out and seeing the stars, photographing them and using flashlights to illuminate things. It is a ton of fun and easier to do than most people think. The May and July workshops will be at same locations and then I have some other great locations we'll go to in June and August. Come join the fun.

Of course, there's my annual Vermont Fall Foliage Workshop, but it has been sold out for months. Start planning for 2023!
