See you at an art show
The art show season is in full swing. I just got back from Virginia Beach where it was hot, hot, hot but I had a very good show. I’m now featuring large photographs, up to 40”X60”, that are mounted behind museum quality high-gloss acrylic. It makes a beautiful presentation and the colors really pop. I’m heading to Amagansett in the Hamptons for the Fourth of July weekend, two weeks later to Westport, CT, on to NJ’s Long Beach Island the first weekend of Aug. and then Mystic, CT. I'd love to see you if you are in the area. Click to see the full schedule

Print of the Month: Birch in Grass

This month’s picture of the month is from Acadia National Park. Early June is still spring in Maine and the green of the grasses were mesmerizing. I found this patch of birch trees sitting in tall grass and loved the way the greens played with the white trees.
You can purchase the print on LorenPhotos.com.
The beauty of Acadia
I had a wonderful workshop earlier this month at Acadia National Park in Maine. We had a good group of people who made some lovely photos. The days were long, especially when we stayed out to photograph the stars at one of the many ponds. I was exhausted but exhilarated when we were done. People are still sorting and editing, but you can see some of their photos, and mine, by clicking here. Of course, each day's events are detailed on my blog.

Excited for next March’s Guatemala workshop
The workshop next March in Guatemala has me excited already. I’m partnering with Edgar Monzon, who has published a photography book on his native Guatemala, and Edgar has put together an itinerary that promises lots great, colorful photos while we explore the Guatemalan culture. The people of Guatemala are proud and friendly, they wear their traditional colorful clothing daily, not for tourists and they love to have their picture taken. We’ll visit beautiful sites and Edgar even has a boat tour for us on a large lake. I’m lucky to have such a great friend be able to show us where to go and ensure we have a memorable, fun and safe trip. I hope you can join us, sign up now.
Fall foliage workshop
If you haven’t signed up yet for the Vermont Fall Foliage, do it now! I’m doing two workshops, one Oct. 2-6 and the other Oct. 8-11. This workshop always is lots of fun and Vermont is the best place in the country to see fall foliage. I take us to some unique places as well as a couple of Vermont’s more famous photography locations. Sign up now.
Hawaii Photo Adventure

I finally got to my 50th state in May - Hawaii. My photographer friend Walter Choroszewski loves photo adventures so we go on crazy, short, frenzied trips and make the most out of our photography time. Neither of us had been to Hawaii so we decided to do a quick dash, leaving on a Thursday and returning on Monday. We knew it would be too fast, and it was, but that was all the time we had. Walter always wanted to surf at Waikiki and see lava flowing. It meant going to two islands, so we did, and we got some great photos at both places. See my blog for more of the adventure.

Shooting in the rain
There are days when I just have a tremendous desire to go out and photograph something - anything, but the weather is crappy and the rain is falling. It isn’t as much fun to shoot in the rain, but the results can be outstanding. During my recent photo workshop in Acadia National Park, the first day was nothing but rain. The attendees had been warned and they all had rain coats, rain pants and waterproof boots. If you are wet, you won’t stay out long, so be sure you are covered. Then there is your camera. I use a couple of different methods to keep my equipment dry. If it isn’t windy, a large golf umbrella does the trick. I slide the handle inside my jacket and my hands are free to work the camera. I usually have a micro fiber towel to cover the camera and lens to keep stray drops off. If the wind is blowing, then I use a plastic bag to cover my equipment. Then I am off looking for those saturated colors created by everything being wet.
