| Provence, France, was a dream tripI wasn't quite ready for how cool Provence is. The fields of lavender were amazing and made for great photos. One of the wonderful things about doing photography workshops is that I get to travel to beautiful places. But the real bonus is getting to know the people who attend and spending some time with them. A unique thing happens at photo workshops, people quickly bond because of their common photographic interest and they want to travel together again. This group was a pleasure which made it a great trip. Click here to see some of my photos. Be sure to check out my blogs posts from France. I'm looking forward to my sold out workshops in Oregon for the solar eclipse and fall foliage in Vermont. Next year's workshop in Maine's Acadia National Park is always great fun. |

Iceland workshop filling fast The response to my upcoming Iceland workshop in March has been overwhelming. I only have a few spots left open and it is going to be a great trip. March is the perfect time to go, the weather is about the same as New York City, the short days are gone, the Northern Lights can still be seen, the waterfalls are flowing with spring melt, you can walk into ice caves and the glaciers are leaving unique "ice diamonds" on the black sand beaches. Since everything in Iceland is expensive, I'm including ground transportation, lodging and meals in the low price. This workshop is filling fast, I hope you can join me. Read more... |

| I love visual surprises and one popped up only a couple of miles from my Vermont house. My wife Robin and I were out to dinner with a neighbor and she asked if I had photographed the lupines in the meadow behind the restaurant. I can't tell you how many times I've driven past there but hadn't ever noticed the wild flowers. I was out there the next morning at sunrise and had a great time wandering through the flowers. Who needs to go to France to photograph purple? See more photos on my blog. |
| | | The Hamptons and then to Vermont for the remaining art festivals This weekend I'll be in Westhampton on New York's Long Island rubbing elbows with the rich and famous and hoping they love my new lavender photos! As I look at my remaining art festival schedule, I'm coming to some of my favorite shows, the ones in Vermont! I do a couple in my town of Woodstock and also in Manchester, Waitsfield and finally Stowe. I have a couple of New Jersey shows in Sept. and Oct. and then I'm done for the year. Time goes so fast! The full schedule is to the right, please stop in and say hello. |

Keep it simple I often see photographers work hard to get everything they can in their photos. I do the opposite, I do everything I can to get as much out of the shot. I love a simple photo that is deep. That doesn't sound feasible, but simple has impact and eliminates distractions. I know what I am trying to say with my photos and where I want the viewer to look. The fewer elements I have the easier it is for the viewer to understand my thoughts. While being overwhelmed by the massive lavender fields in Provence, I had to stop myself and really focus on what it was that moved me. It was the rows of lavender, in perfect order, that extended to the horizon. Anything else in the photo would detract from what I visually enjoyed.
