The sun still shines when plans change
One thing you can always count on is that you can't count on the weather. This month I took my Vermont Night Skies Photography Workshop participants to Cabot to photograph the Milky Way.

The forecast was looking good and the sky was pretty clear when we left Woodstock. During the 90-minute drive the clouds rolled in and then the rain. We stopped at a gas station for a planned break and hung out under an awning waiting for the rain to stop. As it started to clear we made the final 10 minute ride over to Cabot Plains as the sun was setting.

We didn't have much time but the color was spectacular. The passing storm over the mountains made for amazing clouds and it was quite the sight with the little covered bridge sitting under the massive sky.

Free online seminars each month
I'm doing a series of free online seminars each month. I'm aiming to do them on the first Thursday of the month - at least when it fits my schedule! The next one is Sept. 5 and is about using your camera's auto focus modes, which can be confusing. Hopefully I'll be able to clear that up. On October 3 I'll show you some tricks when converting your color photos to Black & White. Many people click once and are done but doing just a little more processing can make a world of difference.

If you miss a session, don't lose your mind. I record each one and it is always available on the Videos section of my website at https://www.lorenphotos.com/gallery/videos/. Take a look and see what you may have missed. If you have any suggestions for topics, please let me know.

The beauty of Maine's Acadia NP
I love going to Maine's Acadia National Park, even though I've been there many times there is always something different. I do a workshop there pretty much every other year and I like going in early June before the crowds arrive and while spring is still in the air. This year we went to a wonderful patch of lupine wild flowers. They are tall and most of them are purple but some are pink or white. The flowers only bloom for a few weeks so it is always lucky to get them in full color. This patch was near a small harbor and morning fog added to the beauty. You can see more photos from the workshop on my journal at https://www.lorenphotos.com/gallery/maine-acadia/
Going back to Cuba
I'm excited to be going back to Cuba for a workshop Feb. 23 to March 2. I'm working with a guide who is a Cuban native and American citizen. He has setup many photography and video expeditions and is getting us into places that few outsiders go. We'll be based in Havana and will see the beauty and wonder of the city lost in time plus we'll travel to surrounding cities. We will have the final itinerary in the next couple of weeks but you can save your spot now at https://www.lorenphotos.com/product/cuba-photography-workshop/. I'm only taking six people so it will fill up fast, let me know if you would like to go, it will be a special week.
Photographing birds in Florida
From March 30 to April 4 we'll be in Florida chasing beautiful birds during their spring breeding season when they are the most colorful and active. We'll start in West Palm Beach on the east coast and make our way west to the Gulf coast to get a large variety of birds including tri-colored herons, great blue herons, burrowing owls, pelicans, snowy egrets, great white egrets, bald eagles, anhingas, cormorants, wood storks, sand hill cranes and more. It is a lot of fun, I hope you can join me. For more information, go to https://www.lorenphotos.com/product/florida-spring-workshop/
Off to the Oregon coast
One of my favorite places is the Oregon coast and the waterfalls along the Columbia River. I haven't done a workshop there in a few years so it is time to go back. The coast is unique, the rock formations known as haystacks are absolutely calling to photographers. We'll hit the famous ones at Cannon Beach and go all the way down the coast to Bandon beach. We'll photograph amazing lighthouses, colorful rock beaches, foggy mornings and beautiful sunsets and more. Then we go along the Columbia River and photograph waterfalls that are the most stunning in America. It will be an excited and varied trip.
