It's time to travel again
|
| | Travel has taken a big hit during the pandemic and it is time to get back out there and see things that are more than a few miles from my house. Granted, I did go to Iceland last August, but I cancelled and postponed many trips in the last couple of years. I'm still doing fewer trips and workshops this year. I'm taking a workshop to Iceland again in August (it is sold out) and to Peru in November.
Traveling to places like Peru are life enriching experiences. I was raised in the cornfields of northern Indiana where many people hadn't left the state. I was lucky, my brother was in the Army in Germany when I was 15, and we wanted to go visit him so my mom and I picked apples, took them to an Amish farm where they made apple cider. She drove our pickup truck through our area with me and two 55-gallon drums in the back. I filled gallon jugs and knocked on doors selling the cider for days. That's how we paid to get me around Europe for a couple months. It was a great lesson in finding a way to make things happen that don't seem possible. But what I really learned was the power of being immersed in different cultures and what we can learn from traveling to other locations.
I'm really looking forward to Peru. I haven't been there but I'm partnering with Sarah McGarghan, who made the photo above. She has been there several times and has a Peruvian travel company. She has a local guide who will get us in some great photographic out-of-the-way locations and show us where to make unique shots at must-see places like Machu Picchu. Yes, there are still a few openings for the workshop, let me know right away if you are interested.
I hope you can get away a bit this year. You can join me in Peru, or Iceland in February, Vietnam in March or again in Iceland next August. Hopefully we can get back to Cuba next year once things settle down there.

| | One last shot of winter
I'm ready for spring to fully hit Vermont, but the last blast of winter came a few weeks ago and dropped a nice coating of snow. I got out my drone and went down along the Ottaquechee River where slabs of ice had been pushed up on the bank during the thaw. I can't decide what animal was traipsing across the ice chunks but it left some cool looking tracks. |
| | | Still a few openings this summer for Vermont Night Skies and Light Painting Workshops The May session is full but there are some spaces available for night workshops in June, July and August. I love getting out and seeing the stars, photographing them and using flashlights to illuminate things. It is a ton of fun and easier to do than most people think. The June and August workshops will be at same locations but we'll go to different places for the July workshop. Come join the fun. |
