| Hi Friend,
I hope you are doing well and are getting out and making lots of great photos.
I enjoyed having you in a workshop last year and I want to let you know about workshops I am doing in Woodstock this year. Since you attended a previous workshop, I'm offering you a $75 discount on my 2013 workshops.
On
April 12-14 is my Beyond the Basics workshop. This workshop is rather
unique, it is more about thinking about photos than the technical stuff.
Sure, if there are tech questions I'll answer them, but we are mainly
going to work on the thought process. It starts with a classroom session
Friday night where I'll show lots of photos and tell you how I go about
shooting them. Saturday morning we'll get out in the field and I'm going to shoot hard and tell you what I am thinking, doing and
why. You'll be shooting too, but I'll be challenging you to really think
about why you are taking each shot.
We'll
head back to the classroom during the day, talk about the morning shoot
and more. Later in the afternoon we are back out shooting, but this
time I will be closely looking over your shoulder and really pressing
you to be intentional in your shooting. Sunday morning we will be back in
the field at sunrise with me watching closely as you shoot. We will get
back to the classroom in time to see and discuss photos everyone shot.
We will be done by 1 p.m. Read more about the workshop.
July
19-21 will be my Composition and Light workshop in Woodstock where
we'll take an in-depth look at two of the most important elements
photographers use to make photographs with impact - Light and Composition.
This workshop will help you see in a different way. Read more about the
workshop.
And,
of course, there is the Fall Foliage Workshop in October. We'll get out
to those beautiful places I've been scouting for years, learn more
about our cameras and expanding our vision. Read more about the workshop.
If
you are looking to do some traveling, I have a couple of other
workshops that you might find interesting. The first is May 16-19 in
Cape May, NJ, which is a major bird migration stop. We will concentrate
on the shorebirds, amazing horseshoe crabs and beautiful coastal scenery
mixed with personal instruction. The workshop price includes single
room hotel right on the beach. I know there is a car heading down, so let me know if you are interested and perhaps I can help you with carpooling. Read more about the workshop.
In
August I am heading to Alaska for Grizzly bears, Puffins and Amazing Scenery. We'll fly to a private lodge where bears roam right up to the
cottage doors. We'll go by boat to a small island packed with puffins,
those cute, colorful and funny looking birds. All instruction will be in
the field. Read more about the workshop.
I hope you can join me on one or more of these workshops. If not, hopefully I’ll see you out shooting around Woodstock. |

Tech tip: When shooting with a telephoto lens on a tripod, I put my left hand on top of the lens and gently pull down. It takes a little practice, you don't want to pull too hard or you'll make everything move, but putting a little weight on top can make the shot steadier. Now, you don't want to use this technique if you are doing a long exposure, because you will shake things more than steady them. Get out and try this, see what works best for you.
