Art show season slowing down
I only have three shows left and it has been a great year on the circuit. I’ve met lots of wonderful people, both customers and other artists. I ventured from Virginia Beach to the Hamptons to Vermont and lots of places in between. There was only one day of rain, which was last weekend but I had my best sales show ever, so I didn’t mind the rain. This weekend I’ll be in Upper Montclair, NJ, then up to Stowe, VT, Oct. 9-11 and back to Montclair, NJ, the following weekend. I’d love to see you at a show, stop by if you are in the area

Print of the Month: Glass

My picture of the month comes from New York City. I had a fun morning with my Meetup.com groups walking the Highline, the former train track that has been turned into a very cool elevated city park. There are tons of photos of the Highline itself, but I was intrigued by this building and the one little tree on a balcony. The light, reflection and angles of the building caught my eye. You can purchase the photo on LorenPhotos.com.
Face in the crowd
While visiting a 4-H fair, I was enjoying photographing the animals and getting the usual fair photos. I saw this man with his cowboy hat, which you don’t see a whole lot in N.J., and I loved the way the sunlight was falling across his face. I asked him if he’d mind if I shot a few pictures and I’m happy he played along. I really enjoy his little smile and twinkle in his eye.

Guatemala workshop in March
I can’t tell you how excited I am for the workshop I am doing next March in Guatemala. I’m partnering with Edgar Monzon, who has published a book on his native Guatemala, and he may be the nicest person I’ve met. He is so proud of his country and can’t wait to show us around. It will be a special trip, the culture and beauty of Guatemala will make incredible photos and it will truly be a trip of a lifetime. As a bonus, this is an inexpensive trip, even the airfare isn’t much. The deadline for discounted early registration is Nov. 1, sign up now. Photo by Edgar Monzon
Lightroom workshop
If you use the program Lightroom and want to learn how to get the most from it, then sign up for my November workshop in N.J. I'm repeating it January if you can't make the November session. I now process all my photos in Lightroom and I love the way it has sped up my workflow and increased my quality. Sign up now.

Tuscany workshop in the works

I’m working with Ron Lake, a photographer from Connecticut on a July 2016 workshop in Tuscany, Italy. Ron has spent extensive time in the region finding unique places to shoot great photos. The light doesn’t get better than in Tuscany and beautiful images are abundant. Oh yea, I hear they have some pretty good food and wine. Details will be coming out in the next week or two. Watch for unique angles
I see too many photographers out shooting with their camera only at their eye level and looking straight ahead. Look around, look up, look down, look behind you. Many times the best shot isn’t what you are looking at, but something nearby. I’d love to think that I am so good that I see the best picture right away, but that rarely happens. I move a lot when I’m shooting, not only getting closer or farther away, but getting lower or higher or looking down. I saw this hat vendor from above while walking the Highline in New York and really like the composition and shapes of the hats.
