Hi Friend
As we approach a season of reflection and gratitude, I wanted to share a simple yet powerful principle that has been instrumental in my recovery journey: giving thanks. Gratitude is more than just a feel-good practice; it’s a cornerstone for managing negative emotions, staying sober and having a good life of positive decisions. Here’s how it helps: Shifts Perspective Focusing on the blessings in our lives—no matter how small—helps us move away from dwelling on what we’ve lost or what’s wrong. This mindset shift strengthens our resolve to stay on the path of recovery. Builds Resilience Acknowledging the good in our lives fosters resilience. When we face challenges, gratitude reminds us that we’ve overcome obstacles before and can do so again. Deepens Connections Expressing thanks to others enhances our relationships. Whether it’s family, friends, or a recovery group, these connections are vital support systems in staying sober. Reinforces Faith For many of us, gratitude is an act of faith. It reminds us of God’s presence in our lives, reassuring us that we’re never alone in this journey. As 1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
This week, I encourage you to start or renew a gratitude practice. Write down three things you’re thankful for each day, and see how it transforms your outlook and strengthens your sobriety.
I’m grateful for you and the journey we share. If you’d like to talk more about this or share what you’re thankful for, I’d love to hear from you. Please join our 3 G;s group where we share what we are Grateful for, Good at and Goals each morning and reflect on our successes at night. You will also get the link to my 30 days of my 365 day meditation book. HERE
Have a wonderful and safe and grateful holiday! With love and gratitude, Linda |
