Feast of Christ the King – November 25, 2012

The King of Truth

The one who speaks the truth has a claim to leadership. This is the person who opens eyes, ears and hearts. He exposes the shameful and raises up the truly righteous. His words challenge us to turn from ways of illusion, to the way of truth. This person is the leader, the King.

Jesus is this person.

MP3 PODCAST: In this week's audio podcast, we ask the question, “Who made Jesus King?” The answer is surprising. Love made him King.

FIRST READING: This time we will look at Daniel's famous description for the Son of Man through the eyes of John the Elder in the book of Revelations.

PSALM: Psalm 93 celebrates our true King, God.

SECOND READING: After we looked at Daniel's vision of the Son of Man, we now analyze the text from Revelations. These verses equate Jesus with the heavenly Son of Man arriving on the clouds in glory.

GOSPEL: John 18 asked a simple question through the mouth of Pilate: “Are you a king, Jesus?” Jesus responded with the question of truth. The One who revealed the Truth was the real King.

CHILDREN'S READINGS: In the story for the first reading, Joe worked hard as the entertainment committee chair. He tried, stumbled, and sometimes succeeded over the school year. In the end, he was surprised he received the “Leader of the Year” award. He received the award for his faithful service, just like Jesus serves us. In the story for the gospel, Jamie failed as president of the Science Club simply because she allowed her ego to take control. After a month, everyone had left the club, and she had to face up to the fact she let her friends down. Unlike Jamie, Jesus doesn't let us down, for he gives us truth, the truth of the heart.

CATECHISM LINK: In this week's Catechism Link, we discuss Jesus as our King, Prophet, and Priest.

FAMILY ACTIVITY: Emphasize the place of Jesus in our lives by creating a “King of Our Hearts” poster. Discuss how your family members can make Jesus King in their hearts.

Important Notice

Later in November, word-sunday.com will undergo some changes to improve service. First, the site will change to a new server around November 20, so it might be off line for a few days. When it goes back on line, you will see the new design for word-sunday.com that was literally a year in the making.

Next, mini studies for the weekday gospel will be available on the site and in your email inbox; sign up for email service will be available soon.

Finally, I've begun to produce videos about the faith and historical background. The first one is now on line; it addresses the figure of John the Baptist. More will be produced as time allows, but be patient, since these are time intensive.
