19th Sunday in Ordinary Time - C - August 11, 2013

Get Ready! He's Coming!

One of the cornerstone beliefs of Christianity is the return of Jesus in glory. He coming, the question is “When?” We don't know the time, but we are to be ready.

FEAST OF THE TRANSFIGURATION August 6

FEAST OF ST. LAWRENCE August 10

MP3 PODCAST In this week's audio podcast, we consider an almost lost theme of anticipation, waiting for the end times.

FIRST READING The book of Wisdom celebrated a time of liberation, a darkness that led to a time of light.

PSALM Psalm 33 was a prayer of praise to God for his power and majesty.

SECOND READING The author of Hebrews defined faith as conviction and hope, a sure view to the future about the return of the Lord.

GOSPEL In Luke 12, Jesus urged all his followers to be prepared for the Lord's coming.

CHILDREN'S READINGS In the story for the first reading, Bobbie kept his promises, especially the one to his parents about his school work. In the end, his promise paid off, just like those from God will. In the story for the gospel, Mandy looked forward to her Aunt Bunny's visits, but sometimes her aunt's business schedule delayed the visit. Like Mandy, we look forward to Jesus coming, but we have to wait.

FAMILY ACTIVITY One of life's frustrations can be summed up in the phrase, “Hurry up and wait.” Life requires quick action and patience. Connect this Sunday's gospel to your family with the “Hurry Up and Wait” game.
