All of us at GLK are deeply saddened by the passing of Edward Milstein, who served as Of Counsel to the firm. Ed was a pioneer in the field of medical malpractice and played a significant role in shaping the landscape of medical malpractice litigation in both New York and New Jersey. He served as a mentor to many of our younger associates, often sharing his insights and expertise on some of our most complex medical malpractice matters. He was a respected voice within the firm and always advocated fiercely for the clients he served.
Aviation Litigation and Safety Advocacy
GLK has been retained in several of New York City’s highest-profile aviation cases. Partners Jeff Korek, Ed Gersowitz, and Michael Fruhling, along with associate attorney Cydney Korek continue to work closely with the affected families involved and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
In addition, the firm is collaborating with key legislators in Washington, D.C., to advance legislation that would strengthen aviation safety measures and help protect passengers nationwide.
Small-Plane Black Box Mandate Would Aid Probes, Lawsuits By Jeff KorekJeff Korek
The Flight Safety Foundation's Aviation Safety Network, a nonprofit research, advocacy and educational aviation organization, reported 44 aviation incidents resulting in 93 fatalities so far this year as of Aug. 29.[1] Nearly half involved small planes or helicopters. The rising crash numbers have raised aircraft safety investigator concerns. Multiple recent crashes in New York state underscore the need for reducing aviation fatalities.
Family Still Searching for Answers After Organ Harvesting ‘Nightmare'
Attorney Jeff Korek, who represents Myriam's family, said motions to dismiss the ongoing lawsuit by defendants LiveOnNY Foundation, New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation and NYU Langone Hospitals have been denied.
Korek said former employees at LiveOnNY, the federally designated organ procurement organization for greater New York, have previously claimed they were incentivized to meet donation goals. Internal emails from LiveOnNY showed employees received bonuses after meeting certain thresholds, WABC reported in 2023.
"Which makes it all the more concerning if people are bypassing checks in place to get to these bodies to be able to harvest their organs because at the end of the day, it's a bigger paycheck for them," Korek told Newsweek.
Attorneys Anthony Makarov and Avinoam Laby have worked diligently in and out of the courtroom.
More specifically, they have both worked hard on the LiveOn organ donation case which has gained national attention. Listen to Anthony and Avi discuss the ethics in organ harvesting and utilizing AI in medical malpractice research for these complicated cases.
RECENT CASE RESULTS
$8,500,000 Settlement Spinal Cord Abscess Case
Through our strong relationships, reputation and extensive experience with the leading hospitals in New York and New Jersey, GLK was able to secure an early resolution in a significant case involving a 60-year-old married bookstore owner who suffered paraplegia after a major NYC hospital failed to timely diagnose and treat a spinal cord abscess.
Following two full-day mediation sessions, Senior Trial Partner Jeff Korek, Partner and Medical Malpractice Chair Michael Fruhling, and Associate Cydney Korek successfully negotiated an $8.5 million settlement. This early resolution spared years of protracted litigation and considerable additional costs.
Despite the tragic circumstances, our client was grateful for GLK’s advocacy and relieved to have the financial security this settlement provides for his future.
