My Friend is Here: Rethinking Feminist Collectivity in Troubled Times

Konsthall C, 9–13/6

A Gathering and Public Programme Curated by Alba Folgado and Carlota Mir in collaboration with Konsthall C.

Rescuing the rare English euphemism ‘My friend is here’, which was used by North American women in the early 20th century to refer to their periods and withdraw from public life, this public programme aims to critically share and reflect on forms of feminist collectivity, difference, self-preservation and friendship at a completely different place and time: concretely, in the current intersections of feminist activisms and the contemporary art field.

Participants: Alex Martinis Roe, Jenny Richards, No NIIN (Vidha Saumya and Elham Rahmati), Raisa Maudit, Rosa Simone (Mourning School), Rossana Mercado-Rojas, Sam Hultin and Ulrika Flink.

Part of the programme will be developed only for and by the participants. A detailed schedule of the open events is available on our website.

Program funded by an Artistic Research & Development Grant by the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. With support from the Spanish Embassy in Sweden, Nordic Culture Point and ABF Stockholm.

Information and program

Residence at Konsthall C - Jonelle Twum

In June – October, Jonelle Twum will take up residence at Konsthall C.

Jonelle Twum is a filmmaker and founder and artistic director at Black Archives Sweden. Her interest in memorial work and practice has laid the foundation for Black Archives Sweden and is closely linked to her own artistic practice.

During her residency, Jonelle will focus on the part of her family archives that are linked to time, migration and dreams. With these starting points, she asks herself these questions: How do you explore an archive material that consists of fragmentations? What methodological and ethical approaches are needed to investigate and approach a history marked by silences?

New board members at Konsthall C

Last week, Konsthall C had its annual meeting, and elected two new board members!

Kristoffer Soldal works at the Postcode Foundation and has lived in Hökarängen since 2016. About the work as a board member, he says: "For me, it is important to make culture accessible to everyone and that participation is the starting point for all activities conducted at a cultural institution."

Senati Tesfai works as a cultural coordinator in Botkyrka municipality, and has previous experience from, among others, CinemAfrica, Moderna museet and Podium. Her vision for Konsthall C is: "A place where art and culture can engage and highlight a community. A safe space for minority groups, a platform for change, questioning and exchanges of ideas."

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank members Sanna Keivanlo, Behzad Khosravi Noori and Annika Enqvist for their efforts during the year.

Our chairman Malin Hüber, Andria Nyberg Forshage, Anna Drvnik, Johanna Dexter Wistedt and Livia Prawitz, as well as Hökarängen's Stadsdelsråd's co-representative Per Hasselberg, remain on the board.

Reminder: Centrifug release

On Saturday June 5 at 12 PM we will release the list for this autumn's Centrifug!

Also this year, we release the list outdoors in Fagerlidsparken (behind Konsthall C). A total of 5 places are available for those who arrive on time. In the park, queues will be marked with a distance of 1.5 meters.

Centrifug is Konsthall C's self-organized gallery, inspired by the laundry's booking system. If you want to exhibit, you have to queue for a place, and whoever comes first can choose which exhibition period they want. In other words, you do not have to be famous, educated, recognized or someone's friend to exhibit in Centrifug. You just have to be on time!

Do you have questions? Email: info@konsthallc.se

The release takes place on the ball field in the northern part of the park. White painted circles mark queue slots. Konsthall C's staff will be on site from 11.00 with coffee for the brave who queue early.

Visiting information regarding Covid-19

Due to current restrictions, we limit the number of visitors to 10 people in the large exhibition hall, and 1 person in Centrifug. We apologise for any delay this might cause.
