A blade only looks as good as its bevels. Uneven grinds, crooked plunge lines, and a shoulder that doesn't sit flush against the guard — that's the difference between a knife you're proud to hand over and one that goes back to the belt for another pass.

The original screw-down carbide file guide has been the go-to fixture on benches and grinders for years. Now it's back in its most refined form: the Nordic Edge™ V7, replacing V6 with real improvements for anyone shaping stick-tang blades toward a bolster or guard.

— Screw-down tungsten carbide faces (approx. HRC 78) guide your file or belt straight to the line

— Carbides adjust sideways to open or close the gap on blades that aren't perfectly parallel

— New on V7: aluminum disc-faced bolts hold already-ground blades more securely

— New on V7: sideways set screws add grip on wedge-shaped, pre-ground blades

HOW IT WORKS

Clamp the blade between the jaws, then file or grind both sides knowing your bevels start dead even, with stick-tang shoulders square and matched for a clean bolster or guard fit.

V7 Tip for Extra Grip:

1. Clamp the blade as normal.
2. Tighten the side set screws to apply sideways pressure.
This secures blades that are already ground and often slightly wedge-shaped.

Belt & Carbide Care

The carbide faces run extremely hard, but ceramic belts will damage them over time. Best paired with hand files or standard aluminum oxide belts on the grinder. In the Nordic Edge™ shop, they run ceramic or Cubitron™ belts until they're roughly 1–2 mm off the carbides, then finish with a 180-grit aluminum oxide belt.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Every Nordic Edge™ V7 File Guide ships in a custom box with the required Allen keys, and it's tapped for a bench vice attachment. Note: as a precision hand tool, it can feel tight for the first few uses — tighten firmly and evenly, and let the guide pins do their job.
