DIY BLADE KIT — 1075 HIGH CARBON STEEL

The Tail Fin High Carbon Blade Kit is built for the craftsman who wants a compact, dependable utility knife in his carry rotation without sacrificing the satisfaction of putting it together himself. Machined from 1075 High Carbon Steel and hollow-ground on both sides, this fixed blade blank arrives heat treated and ready for your handle shaping, pin setting, and finish work.

At 3.25 inches of blade length and 7.00 inches overall, the Tail Fin sits right in the sweet spot for daily carry — enough steel to get work done in the shop or field, compact enough to carry discreetly without drawing attention. The 0.75-inch blade width delivers balanced cutting performance whether you are breaking down materials at the bench or running it through everyday utility tasks.

Two 0.125-inch through-holes provide a clean starting point for handle construction, with included stainless steel pinstock. The holes can be easily modified to accommodate larger pinstock or threaded fasteners to match your preferred build style. At 59–61 Rockwell, this blank will hold an edge and take a beating — exactly what a working carry knife should do.

Choose the blade-and-pinstock-only version and supply your own handle material, or go with the combo kit and select from a premium set of hardwood scales to simplify the build. Either way, this is a weekend bench project that delivers a finished tool worth carrying every day.

Tail Fin — USA Damascus

DIY BLADE KIT — 416-LAYER CARBON DAMASCUS

The same proven Tail Fin geometry — now in a 416-layer USA-made carbon steel Damascus. This is the kit for the craftsman who wants to put a genuinely impressive blade on his build. The Damascus construction takes the same compact 3.25-inch hollow-ground fixed blade and wraps it in layered steel that is as functional as it is striking. Collectible gift project or daily carry work knife — this blank covers both.

Built from a multi-steel combination of 52100, 5160, 203E, and 15N20, folded five times to achieve 416 layers, this Damascus blank delivers the kind of patterning that makes knife collectors stop and take notice. The hollow grind runs on both sides for balanced edge geometry and consistent cutting performance. At 56–58 Rockwell, this blank is heat treated and ready for finishing.

Handle construction is identical to the High Carbon model — two 0.125-inch through-holes with included stainless steel pinstock, easily modified for larger pinstock or threaded fasteners. Order the blade and pinstock only, or select the combo kit with your choice of premium hardwood scales to take the build from blank to finished knife without sourcing additional materials.
