Subject: Ok soYou got a new telescope, what's next?

Hello Friend,

Congratulations! If you have received a new telescope for
the holidays, so here are a few tips to get you started on using it.

No doubt you want to get it out and try it right away, so lets start
with the important stuff.

1) *Read the manually briefly. (this applies especially to men).

Especially the part about first setting up the instrument.
Most manufacturers today
have designed telescopes to be easy to set up, with minimal
effort by the user.

2) Don't go crazy wanting high magnification!

Start with the lowest power eyepiece, so you can actually
find something in the night sky.

3)Manual telescopes: You must line up the finderscope to the
main telescope. How? Put a low power eyepiece in your telescope
and aim it at the top of a telephone pole

Then, adjust the finderscope crosshairs to match up to what
you are seeing through the main telescope.

IMPORTANT; Don't do this the other way around; it will drive you
nuts.

4) Computerized telescopes:
*Make sure the tripod is as level as possible.

*use a planisphere or star chart to ensure you are aligning
the instrument to the correct alignment stars. It's easy
to make a mistake here.......

5)This might be obvious, but it's best not too look through
window glass, as the images may be distorted.

6) Now that you have a new telescope, be patient as it takes
time to become a skilled amateur astronomer.

Clear Skies!
