Subject: Lest we Forget

Good Morning Friend,

The late Frank Smith was a friend and  employee of Khan Scopes,
who passed away several years ago.

Perhaps you had the pleasure of meeting him, and if you did,
you would certainly remember him.

We used to joke, because Frank usually wore a tie and cardigan
when he came into work.

Reminded us of one of those old BBC shows, like "Are you being served"!

Frank was an Englishman, living south of London, UK
 who also served as a machinist,in the military during WW2;

Then he worked for the Ford Motor Company, and eventually
emigrated to Canada.

I recall one particular cold winter night, when we were observing with our telescopes,
on the grounds of the David Dunlap Observatory in Richmond Hill, he described the hell
of the London bombings, and some of this colleagues and friends he had lost during the war.

I really miss Frank, and especially his many wartime stories, that he would share with us
on many a Saturday afternoon at the shop.

Please take a moment today to remember and to give thanks, to those who have served,
and continue to serve today.

Yours Sincerely,

Ray Khan

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
         In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
         In Flanders fields.
