STARFEST SPECIAL!

Meade Deep Sky Imager II Colour CCD camera, on sale for $730

Stop the Press!!

Meade Instruments announces a special deal on the Deep Sky Imager Pro:  With the purchase of any NEW Meade RCX, LX200, LX90 or LXD75 telescope, purchase an original-series Deep Sky Imager Pro for the discount price of only $159! Full price for this CCD Imager is $499 when purchased separately! Or, purchase the Deep Sky Imager Pro with RGB/Filter Set combo for only $280 (Save over $350…  regular price for this camera is $650!) with the same Meade telescopes.

To go with your new CCD camera, why not get into some of the theory of image processing with the following new books: Photoshop Astronomy by R. Scott Ireland ($65), as reviewed in the September issue of Sky & Telescope , and two new books from the astro-imaging guru Robert Reeves: Introduction to Webcam Astrophotography, and Introduction to Digital Astrophotography ($55 each) which is specifically a manual for Digital SLR cameras.

Visible Now: Comet Barnard 2 (177P/2006 M3) has returned to the inner solar system on its 117-year orbit.  The comet has brightened to 9th magnitude and is well worth investigating at Starfest.  In July it flew by the Earth at only 0.3 times the Earth-Sun distance.  And why not image it with the William Optics ZenithStar 66mm SD Doublet Apo with FREE 1.25\" Dielectric Diagonal, Two-Speed Graduated Crayford Microfocuser and Hard Padded Case at the Starfest Special Price $499!

Visible Now: Oval BA on Jupiter, now also known as Red Spot, Jr. is a new rival to the Great Red Spot.  Oval BA coalesced out of three white oval storms in Jupiter\'s atmosphere over the course of the last eight years, and now the resulting storm has turned the same rusty hue as the GRS.  Why not hunt them down with the William Optics Bino-viewers with 20mm Eyepieces and Focal Extender Included!  Why settle for mono views, when you can get the Bino-viewers complete with a pair of high quality eyepieces and 1.6x corrector.

Tomorrow morning: Okay, it\'s 5:30 AM at Starfest and you are still going strong.  Everyone else is asleep and before you turn in, you point your telescope at the eastern horizon at the conjunction of Venus and Saturn to see nothing more than a rainbow mess.  The prism diagonal in your telescope is diffracting the brightest planet\'s light into a spectrum.  You need the 1.25-inch Dielectric Star diagonal from William Optics.   Forget that out of collimation prism diagonal that is so common, even with name brand manufacturers. A bargain at only $110!  Other William Optics diagonals in both sizes are also available at Khan Scope.

Visible Now: Variable star Chi Cygni is at maximum (Magnitude 3.8) in fact, it is in outburst!  Count the naked-eye stars visible in Cygnus between Deneb and Albireo.  Can you see three of them? Four?  According to astronomer John Bortle, this might be the brightest maximum of Chi Cygni in 148 years!

David Levy\'s Guide to Variable Stars, 2nd. Ed., on sale for $38.95

After Starfest, why not come back to your next star party with one of these?  Celestron SkyScout Personal Planetarium: the new handheld GPS celestial navigator, on sale for $460 (plus free shipping on all pre-orders!)

No Earlier than Sunday, August 27th: The Space Shuttle Atlantis is scheduled to lift off on the STS-115 mission to deliver large solar power arrays to the International Space Station.  Canadian astronaut Steve MacLean will be on board the shuttle.  As long as Atlantis is in space before Wednesday, September 6th there will be several opportunities to see it and the ISS orbiting together in the evening, and brightening noticeably as the new arrays are unfurled.  Why not try and track the ISS across the sky with a trusty tripod and the William Optics ZenithStar-II 80mm ED Apo with FREE 1.25-Inch Dielectric Diagonal, on sale for $745 with a hard padded case included!

Anytime: Picture yourself trying to focus your SCT for the best possible image of your favourite summer sky object.  The mirror shift has you stumped, and you can\'t adjust the focus finely enough.  Leave that SCT focus knob alone, and get rid of that annoying image shift once and for all. Choose from two attractive colours: Metallic Orange and Blue.  We have the William Optics SCT Two-Speed Graduated Crayford Focuser Starfest Special on Sale for $245!

Wednesday, November 8th: Transit of Mercury

Hydrogen-a Coronado Personal Solar Telescope on sale for only $637!
Starfest Special Bonus! FREE Meade Electronic Eyepiece ($99 value with purchase)
