The PiFinder V4 Has Arrived — Plus an Askar 120 APO and a Starfield 60Q Worth Clearing Your Weekend For
Three things came through the door this week that we think are worth your attention. The BB Labs PiFinder V4 — the plate-solving push-to finder that ends star alignment for good — is in stock at $895. A pre-owned Askar 120 mm f/7 APO ED triplet arrived in excellent condition with a free $306 flattener at $1,949. And the Starfield GEAR 60Q quad astrograph is on sale at $1,269.99 with a free 32 mm guide scope included.
The Moon is barely a sliver this weekend and the Milky Way core is riding high after dark. If the clouds cooperate, this is the darkest sky you'll get all month.

The BB Labs PiFinder V4 — Point, Plate-Solve, Push To. No Alignment, No Encoders.
If you have ever spent twenty minutes of a precious clear night doing a three-star alignment, this is the product you have been waiting for. The PiFinder doesn't estimate where your telescope is pointing — it photographs the sky and solves the field, then tells you exactly where you are and how to get where you want to go. No encoders to install. No alignment routine. No setup circus. Power it on, pick an object, follow the arrows.
Version 4 is a real step up: a 1.91" OLED display with 62% more viewing area, over nine hours of battery per charge, and USB-C so you can keep running while it charges. Best of all, it now converts between left-exit, right-exit and straight-through in seconds without tools — so it fits a Dobsonian, an SCT, a refractor, or a Newtonian equally well. It arrives fully assembled with nearly 150,000 objects loaded and an observation log built in.

BB Labs PiFinder V4 — For All Telescope Configurations (BBL-PIFINDER-V4)
Plate-solving finder · 1.91" OLED · 9+ hour battery · USB-C · tool-free left/right/straight conversion. The PiFinder takes a photograph of the sky, solves it against its catalogue, and knows precisely where your telescope is aimed — accurate from the first second, with no alignment stars and no encoders. An integrated accelerometer updates in real time as you move the scope, and a directional joystick plus audio cues walk you onto target. Catalogue of nearly 150,000 objects with observation logging built in. Works with any scope: Dobsonian, SCT, refractor, Newtonian, tracking or not.

An Askar 120 mm f/7 APO ED Triplet — With a Free $306 Flattener — at $1,949
Pre-owned apochromats of this calibre don't sit on our shelf for long, and this one arrived in excellent condition. A 120 mm air-spaced ED triplet at f/7 is a genuinely serious instrument — enough aperture to resolve tight doubles and pull real detail out of planets, and clean enough colour correction to image with. Askar's build quality is the other half of the story: a dual-speed focuser with 100 mm of travel, a full 360° rotator, and a 290 mm extended Vixen dovetail, all in a 6.5 kg package with rings included.
It comes with the 1.0× Askar flattener included free — a $306 accessory — which means it's ready to image the night it arrives. There is one.

Askar 120 mm f/7 APO ED Triplet Refractor — with Free 1.0× Askar Flattener (Pre-owned)
120 mm aperture · 840 mm focal length · f/7 · air-spaced ED triplet. Aperture is the one thing you cannot fake, and 120 mm of it in a well-corrected apo gives you light-gathering, resolution and contrast that a 4" simply can't match. The dual-speed rack-and-pinion focuser carries 100 mm of travel with a 360° rotator for framing, and the 290 mm extended Vixen dovetail gives you real balance range. 6.5 kg complete with tube rings — light enough for a Star Adventurer GTi-class mount to handle it comfortably. The free 1.0× Askar flattener ($306 value) makes it imaging-ready out of the box.

Own the Core: Starfield GEAR 60Q f/5 Quad Astrograph at $1,269.99
Milky Way core season is at its peak right now, and this is the scope built for it. The Starfield GEAR 60Q is a 60 mm f/5 quadruplet Petzval astrograph — 300 mm of focal length across a 44 mm image circle, meaning it covers a full-frame sensor edge to edge with no field flattener needed. Nothing to add, nothing to space out, nothing to get wrong.
Right now it's $1,269.99 (regularly $1,705) and it ships with a free 32 mm f/4 guide scope worth $135 while supplies last. A soft case with die-cut foam is included. One in stock.

Starfield Optics GEAR 60Q f/5 Quad Astrograph — with Free 32 mm Guide Scope (G60Q-05-01)
60 mm quadruplet Petzval APO · 300 mm f/5 · 44 mm image circle · full-frame ready. The corrective element sits inside the focus tube, so the field is flat straight out of the focuser — no flattener to buy, no back-focus arithmetic. A 2.5" rack-and-pinion focuser on ball bearings handles a heavy camera train without sag, working distance is 41–61 mm from the 48 mm thread, and it accepts optional motorized focus. Widefield nebulae, large open clusters, the Milky Way core — this is a scope that makes them easy. Includes a fitted soft case, plus the free 32 mm f/4 helical-focus guide scope while supplies last.

A quick note on the three headline items: the Askar 120 and the Starfield 60Q are one each, and the last ASIAIR PLUS 256GB goes when the ZWO sale closes tomorrow. If one of them is the piece you've been circling, this is the weekend to move on it.
As always — call us at 416-783-4140 if you want to talk through fit, compatibility or condition before you buy. We would genuinely rather spend ten minutes on the phone getting it right than have you order the wrong thing.
