Subject: A dumb way to die

Hello Friend,

Do hope you are enjoying the holiday season so far.

It  was certainly nice to be on Manitoulin Island, here in the cold North  for the holidays.

And while it rained all day on Christmas eve, it got cold enough on December 24th evening for it to snow,
so we ended up with a white christmas after all.

Bing Crosby wouldn't dream of it any other way.

But that was shortly lived, as the snow melted away on Boxing day.

Now while people do crazy stuff in the city, like lining up outside a big box
store at 2am, and freezing their asses so save a few bucks on a HDTV, on boxing day,
some people on the island here do some slightly different crazy things.

Earlier in the week, a deer was killed just in front of our house on the frozen lake.

The coyotes or wolves had pretty well ripped it apart, and all that was left was the
head and the antlers.

Nature doing what nature does.

A gruesome sight, nonetheless.

Mrs K. and myself had just come back from walking our dog, and we saw a car
pulled up in front of our property.

It was a bunch of twentysomethings who decided they wanted to investigate the carcass
a little more, so they threw a rock on the ice to see if it was safe enough to walk out on.

Well, the rock survived, but the problem was it had rained a lot, and in some areas
you could see the ice had thinned around our dock.

So one of the group walked directly over to the carcass about 50ft out, and the others
were going to follow.

That's when Mrs K. warned them that if they went through the ice, she would not be going
over to try to rescue them. (And neither would yours truly for that matter!).

They looked at each other,, and then sheepishly came back, got in their
car and left.

This is an example of where curiousity might have killed the cat,  (and no amount of satisfaction
would bring it back!).

Or was it just plain stupidity?

This is the kind of stuff you read about in the papers.

Usually followed by: "What a great person, he/she was"...

Oh well.........

Clear Skies,

Ray Khan

PS Even the cops were in full force doing ride spot checks all day long here;
When will folks learn, drinking and driving is a really bad combination?
