Dear Friends and Colleagues!

The 8th edition of the Budapest Architecture Film Days takes place between 03-06. March. Please find the detailed programme and press kit below.

8. BUDAPESTI ARCHITECTURE FILM DAYS

This is the 8th occasion that the Hungarian Contemporary Architecture Centre (KÉK) organises this unique festival. The first urbanism-themed film festival in Central Europe offers more films than ever.

The festival’s mission is, and always has been, to present stories about cities and the communities within, that are equally relevant in Budapest. Budapest has experienced a rapid metamorphosis in the recent years, where its emblematic historical sites, public spaces and traffic nodes have been reshaped. The festival aims to underline that there is no escape from change, but the chance is given to learn from the past and to discuss the lessons. The 4 day journey through film offers everyone the opportunity to experience an external view of the city. The selection of films about contemporary architecture, design and urbanism provide new perspectives and insights to track the city’s recent transformation.

Many of this year's selection have been shot over a period spanning more than 10 years - a time period allowing for a detailed documentation of changes. Our subjects include long-lasting urban effects of cultural projects, like the redevelopment of Netherland’s most famous museum, the Rijksmuseum or the reconstruction of the Alexanderplatz in Berlin. We catch a glimpse of billionaire Londoners moving underground, at Chinese real-estate investors hiring tourists to advertise for ghost towns and at the transformation of the ordinary lives of people in Athens during the global financial crisis. The festival introduces several buildings from the Japanese studio SANAA, who recently won the design contest for the new National Gallery of Budapest. FREAKS freearchitects will attend the festival to showcase their most recent video work.

Just like the previous years, the festival also offers other programs. Several screenings are accompanied by talks with the directors and other contributors, along with parties, thematic walks, exhibitions, there will be even an architect’s beer specially brewed for KÉK.
