New Romance Categories Introduced
Amazon just made a pretty significant addition to the Romance category hierarchy. They introduced a dedicated bestseller list for Dark Romance, finally recognizing the huge popularity and multi-year sales growth of the sub-genre.
Further additions include trope-based categories: Romance » Fake Dating, Romance » Friends to Lovers, and Romance » Second Chances. These additions follow the logic Kindle started in November 2023, bringing the Romance category structure more (though still not fully) in line with the one you find in the Books department.
Continued Growth
Overall, Romance has continued its excellent performance over the last six months (once again!). The high level of Amazon romance sales builds on a surge in worldwide Google search volumes for "romance books", boasting 100% search growth over the past five years.
Such positive developments provide the perfect launchpad for your romance projects this year.
