Hi Friend,
Did you know that this November marks 19 years since Amazon launched the Kindle? I know. It doesn't just feel like ages ago. It is ages ago.
A myriad of things have happened in self-publishing since then. If I had to sum it up in three words, I’d say:
Growth. Competition. Professionalism.
Growth: Royalties paid to authors through Kindle Unlimited, just as one indicator, continue to grow at around 12% per year. The total amount ever paid to KDP Select authors is on track to surpass $5 billion this month.
To put that number into perspective: stacked in single-dollar bills, $5 billion would tower roughly 340 miles into space, higher than the International Space Station.
Competition: Where there is money, there will be competition.
That’s not a cliché. It’s simply reality. You've seen the book supply graphs in our genre reports.
Professionalism: In response to that challenge, virtually everything around self-publishing has become more professional: writing, covers, marketing, distribution, advertising, data, tools, and services.
And the authors who stayed true to their craft while continuously learning and improving have probably captured the bulk of that success.
But there is a catch.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to stay on top of changes in every function of your author business while still getting the main work done: writing and publishing books.
Take ad management.
You invest in courses. You learn the platform. You implement what works. Then Meta comes along with another major change to its advertising platform, as we have just seen.
A week later, Amazon Ads is in the news again.
Placements change. Targeting changes. Creative requirements change. Costs change. And the learning cycle starts again.
That is stressful.
And most authors simply cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars on trial and error figuring out what works today.
⬛ Free Event: Author Case Study: A $100K Month ⬛
In situations like these, I think it is best to learn from people who have seen it, done it, and mastered it.
That is why I asked my friend Bryan Cohen of Best Page Forward to join me for a special K-lytics webinar.
Bryan will show us, in detail, how he and his Ad Management Team helped scale an author's business to more than $100,000 in royalties per month.
Yes, that's per month. That's an impressive number.
I wanted to understand exactly how they did it, what role advertising played, and how other authors can bring these best practices into their own businesses.
So please join Bryan and me on Thursday, September 10th for this free event.
2pm New York | 11am Los Angeles | 7pm London
I hope to see you there! Sincerely,
