For the first time since 2021, the steady rise in search interest for "cozy mystery books" is finally translating into a genuine sales-rank rebound for the category.
Netflix as a Genre Amplifier
While critics have been divided on Netflix’s movie adaptation of Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club, it accumulated 24.7 million views in its first week, made the Top 10 in 91 countries, and was the #1 movie in 31 countries.

But the good news is that the rise in cozy mystery sales ranks started before the movie buzz. So Netflix may be more a catalyst than the root cause.
And hopefully we’ll see another push for the genre through Daniel Craig’s return as Benoit Blanc in Wake Up Dead Man. The third installment in the Knives Out franchise—this time featuring Glenn Close and Josh Brolin, among other A-list stars—will stream on Netflix in December.
