Subject: Italian farmers’ advice for authors

How is it possible that 80% of the land in Italy could be owned by 20% of the population?

Or that 80% of any company’s profits come from 20% of the time its employees spend at work?

Or that 80% of our revenues comes from 20% of our books?

It’s really nothing new. It’s simply the 20/80 principle, known as the Pareto principle.

It was discovered by an Italian economist named Vilfredo Pareto and its validity has been proven time and time again.

The great thing is that we can use it to our advantage.

Do you know what else good old Vilfredo discovered?

80% of the peas in his garden came from 20% of his pea plants.

What does that mean for us authors?

Practically, we only need to focus on the 20% of marketing activities that give us 80% of results!

But the million dollar question is: which 20% do we need to focus on?

I will answer this question next week - make sure you look out for next week’s email, entitled “The 20% of book marketing efforts that yield 80% of results”
