Hi,
Stop Asking ChatGPT For Answers. Start Using It To Think Better.
aka "Rory this for me"
Most people use ChatGPT like one generic assistant.
They ask a question, get an answer, ask for a rewrite, maybe ask for more ideas.
which is useful, but also limited.
The bigger opportunity is to create different thinking modes inside ChatGPT, so you can approach different problems from different angles.
For example:
Practical mode - For plans, structure, next steps, and execution.
Creative mode - For hooks, names, metaphors, angles, and unusual ideas.
Clarity mode - For untangling messy thinking, decisions, priorities, and direction.
Humour mode - For making content sharper, more human, and more memorable.
Psychology mode - For buyer behaviour, perceived value, emotional triggers, and counterintuitive marketing angles.
The key idea is simple: The name is just the switch. The thinking lens is the asset.
You’re not creating characters for the sake of it.
You’re creating repeatable thinking environments.
A copywriter friend of mine does this by putting “Gary Halbert” and “Dan Kennedy” into the same imaginary room inside ChatGPT to rip apart and rebuild sales copy.
The point is not impersonation.
The point is using strong thinking lenses to get a better critique.
This is useful for:
- Marketing angles
- Offer positioning
- Business clarity
- Idea validation
- Sales copy critique
- Mental clarity
- Challenging weak assumptions
- Turning generic AI output into something more useful
I’ve also created my own modes, including Rory mode, which looks at ideas through behavioural marketing, buyer psychology, perceived value, and counterintuitive thinking.
Example trigger: “Rory this.”
That tells ChatGPT to challenge the obvious answer and look for the hidden psychological lever.
I’ve added the full PDF in the community for free for anyone who wants the deeper process, examples, prompts, and how this became a reusable content asset for me -
