This past week we have spent getting back in the groove of milking the cows. Number 22 is in the barn and getting milked twice a day. Louise is really close to having her calf so she is coming in too so she can also be in the routine, which for her isn't very difficult. She LOVES coming to the milkbarn to have her special ration, fly spray and extra attention... and just about runs us over at the gate to come in. It has not been as easy for the farmers who have needed to get up a little earlier than they have in the past year. After a week I think we are finally getting into the groove.
The cows are coming to the MilkBarn that Jay's grandparents built in the 30s and used until they built the newer barn in the 60s. When we started the projects this old barn was unusable, most of the roof had collapsed. We removed everything except the concrete floors, concrete half walls and the feed bunks. Last year we built an open air roof over the Milking room out of insulated panels. So.. for the first time in 60ish years there are cows standing at the feed bunks again.
We will start to schedule Milk pickups. Please contact us for more info.
This is our Sunday to head to Bernice Gardens. Everyone else can find us at the farm on Friday and Saturday.... Dont forget our Home Delivery on Friday afternoons. Orders for Veggies need to be placed by Wednesday Mornings. |
