Hi Friend
I tend to refer to this time of year as 'silly season'! Not only do we
have so-called 'daylight saving' effectively de-synchronising our
internal clocks from nature, we also have any number of popularised and
very often trivial practices for what we know as Halloween. Candy
anyone??
Having a natural inquisitive mind (which you may have
figured!), I started some exploring and found some fascinating and
deeply ancient links to this time of year that go waaaay beyond the
secular, druidic, pagan and other acknowledged festivals around this
time of year into a Universal Tradition found both north and south of the equator.
The
'Day of the Dead' and honouring of ancestors, indicates a startling
uniformity of tradition that "could not have been caused by any calendar
known to us. Therefore this annual festival must have been regulated by
some visible sign or mark that nature had supplied to our ancestors" (Robert Grant Haliburton, 1868)
From
ancient Hindu, Japanese, Egyptian, Mexican, Persian, Fidji, Peruvian
and many more civilisations, there is a startling history of sinificance
associated both with the dates 31 Oct - 2 Nov, as well as an additional
period that crops up on 17 Nov.
(With some surprising twists and WHY the Pleiades feature so significantly in what is effectively a universal Honouring!)
