Good Morning, Friend,
Below you can find Sam Darby's Free Friday column where he'll be hoping to do better than last week's effort, a race by his own admittance he got completely wrong. There's also news of a Scoop6 rollover, which if an occasional player, is the time to dive in.
Chepstow had a shocker yesterday and should be made to explain themselves. Glamorous Breeze loves fast ground but sadly for me after race 1 they changed the going from Good to Firm to Good to Soft (with many jockeys saying it was riding proper soft). I'm not sure why they didn't pull her out, I wonder if there was pressure to keep x8 in the race. I can handle losers, obviously, most of them lose! And I'm not one for excuses generally, and have never been one to moan about jockeys etc etc. If a horse loses, it's my fault, accept it, move on. Any perceived 'bad luck' evens out over time, it's not worth my energy. Continued frustration gets you nowhere in this game.
However, on this occasion, the course has either lied about the going in the morning or has simply been incompetent, especially with the watering can in the days before. With the amount of rain that was forecast and fell, the ground simply shouldn't have changed as it did, a raft of NRs, races decimated and completely changed and so on. They also would have known long before race 1 what the actual ground was. It was a farce but there we go. Thankfully that doesn't happen too often otherwise we'd be in a bit of bother, for all there appear wider issues with the 'official going'. Alas. Moving on...
