Subject: 🟢 To Newmarket, 9/1 horse of interest inside...

Hello, Friend

Below I have a 9s poke of interest from Flat HQ, in the final race of the card. Whether today's the day or not, hopefully something of interest below and some horses to track moving forwards.

Before that, don't forget to grab Matt B's (Mr Geegeez) excellent 'Horse Profiles' report...

In other news, on Tuesday morning I was invited to have a look around the yard of Grand National winning trainer, Dr Richard Newland, near Worcester. The 6am start was worth it. It's an impressive set up, custom built by them from scratch five years ago. Richard and the team were all very welcoming.

My syndicate partner Jay and I are keen to expand outside of Newmarket, especially with the jumps horses, and this looks like a great place in which to do so. They're very 'pro syndicates' which is great and he's operating at a 18% win SR in 2023 so far, very good. It's a superb central location also, a bit more accessible for those further north, west and south/west.

We're in the process of pulling together a 2 horse Syndicate for this summer, running from 1st May to end October, just the 6 months commitment. Summer jumping is great fun, given the sunshine and the evening meetings. Richard has a couple of unexposed hurdlers he's leasing us, to keep costs down and lower the risk all round - I'm excited by them and they look sure to win races and give us something to cheer. All being well we're going to have loads of fun days out. Exciting times!

While our existing 80 owners across our 6 syndicates will get first refusal, they'll no doubt be spaces available, so keep an eye out in the next week or two if you fancy some summer jumping fun.

Onto today...

5.15 Newm – NOVUS â€“ 8/1/17/2 – EW, 5p (now 9-10/1)

I’ve been wading through the Geegeez ‘My Report Angles’ report for around 90 minutes and my only pin has landed on this one, and a horse who’s since a NR, mentioned below.

Whatever this one does here, she’s worth tracking, but hopefully she’s here to run a big race. Some stats…

  • Gary Moore continues in mad form, 17/47, 22p, +40 in the last 14 days, across all codes. Obviously this burst will level off at some point soon but hopefully not just yet.

  • With Tom Queally riding, 3/12,4p in the last 30 days.

  • Gary can get them fit and has a solid 25.45% win SR with LTO winners. While not prolific at Newmarket, in the last 5 years he’s 1/7,2p at both courses with 3YO handicappers, 1/3,2p when sent off 8/1<.

The horse… well this 3YO filly had a cracking 2YO season, staying on pleasingly on debut over Sandown’s 5f (on GF), having been outpaced but wasn’t beaten far come the line. It suggested she could be readied 1st time out also. 5 subsequent winners came from that race.

Her Kempton effort was ok also, again staying on pleasingly over 6f, not beaten far, again, five subsequent winners from that, including from the 2 directly behind her that day.

She then went to Newbury on soft and won fairly well, the front two some way clear, which is a good sign. Ten subsequent winners have come from that race. The 2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th have all won.

From that race, it could be worth keeping an eye on… Verdansk, Finest Leader, Diamond Dreamer, Many Rivers (entered Ponte on 24th April). Obviously on paper they were well stuffed, having maybe not handled the ground, but even so, a deep race on paper and hopefully some of those build on it into their 3YO year.

Maybe the soft ground helped spread-eagle the field but her attitude was impressive and evidently she’s got ability. The 2nd that day, Physique, would win a Newmarket novice on his next start, beating Majestic Pride, who’s since won his next two, including on the first day of the Craven meeting. The Paul and Ollie Cole gelding is worth tracking also based on that piece of form, running on 1st April at Chelmsford as if needing the run in a decent enough race. It will be interesting to see where he goes next.

So, plenty of positives. I think she’s drawn on the right side, plenty of winners coming middle to high and possibly more pace this side. I could be wrong of course. She looks versatile ground wise but it could be she wants it softer and at some point she may want 1m+. (plenty of stamina on the dam side also, 1m4-6f+). A chance she gets outpaced here. It’s interesting Gary pitches her in against the boys here also. Hopefully she can run well today and handles the dip. If it isn’t today, surely it won’t be long before she gets her head in front.

The other one I looked at, before becoming a NR, was Emporio in the 18.10 at Tipperary. Mainly because Donnacha O’Brien and jockey Gavin Ryan are 5/11,10p together at the course. That was my ‘way in’.

The horse is unexposed in handicaps and has been given some stiff tasks, including on return. I’ve no idea why pulled out, maybe they want softer, but he looks versatile. I suspect he’s got a 7-8f handicap in him somewhere this season, especially outside of ‘premier’ company. I thought he’d have gone very close today at 11/2, but not to be. Take a look through some of his form, solid, and his return run can be excused, having fallen out the stalls, he got kick-back mud in his nostrils, and i’m not sure he wants it that heavy. He may have needed it also.

As always, do with that little lot as you please!

Good luck with any bets,

Josh
