re-cap…

Not much to cheer from my three darts on Friday. Leading Swoop stuck on well to grab a place at 9s>14s, which limited my damage on day to level stakes, credit to Harry K for keeping at him. I thought he’d enjoy the drop in trip/ground combo but appear to have got that wrong as it happened all a bit quickly for him, but a decent attitude. They have to wait for a race back here, maybe 2m5/6f, C5, and surely while the yard are in this form, he goes close, one to track. It could be he lacks a winning attitude but I don’t think so, and this turned into an OK race, a LTO winner taking it.

Eurkash was well backed, travelled well, found sod all when asked, and looks problematic for win purposes. The sort of horse you could follow off a cliff but I’ll leave him, I thought that race there for the taking. That’s class 5s for you and I probably got what I deserved diving in at 11/4 – one day I’ll learn! For all that proved value. Egbert was woeful, jumped off at the front, looked up for it, and after 3 fences slowly lost his position and didn’t look interested for most of the race, plodding home. It could be he’s just unpredictable, needs to be in the right mood etc. I can see why they swap the headgear around. He’ll fall in at some point no doubt, but probably more luck than judgement getting him right, stuffed a long way before any fitness questions. The winner did it well, I was put off by the yard form at 11/2 or so, but maybe plenty have just been needing the run – that could be an angle to watch in next few weeks, Lavelle’s second time after a break. Stats of 2/50 in last 30 days suggest plenty may come on bundles, as evidently no health issues on this evidence. Beachcomber ran well, a bit gassy again, and he smacked one at the wrong moment, ran on into 2nd, winner had him held (but he was unexposed/some decent chase form start of last season). Jonjo’s may just get better with experience, he needs to settle better, and may want 3m2f in time. That’s two good runs now, and his time shouldn’t be far away.

No doubt Sans Bruit went into plenty of notebooks, jumping well on the front end, against two decent opponents, over-racing and then running out of puff. All of Nicholls’ have seemingly needed the run badly, he may prefer softer, but on this evidence has a few more wins in him, that Aintree win lingers in the mind. Paul will have a plan no doubt, flat tracks could suit, but 2m somewhere from the front. Aintree, Newbury. Only 6, nice horse.
