Subject: 🏇 Saturday's Selections Inside

Good Morning, Friend

Rossa improved his Ffos Las record with the shortie doing the job, well backed from 7/4. The two bigger priced ones didn't run much of a race at all, for all the Kubler horse looked to go lame, hopefully nothing too serious, and Beckett's doesn't look like 80k+ well spent! The market told the story there, maybe it will click at some point, potentially back on better ground. Still, that horse/stats made me dive into Beckett's first time blinkers stats which will hopefully pay dividends over time...

Onto today and I've flicked through the Geegeez 'report angles' report and landed on two, which I hope could be EW darts to nothing, famous last words...

3.00 Sandown - Lord Protector - 5/1

9.00 Wolves - Cheese The One - 6/1

*

Lord Protector :-

  • Beckett/Rossa remain in fine form, 12/31, 18p, +18 in the last month

  • At Sandown together: 4/13,7p, +6 , and Rossa rides this place well also, 6/24,7p, +14 all rides in the last year.

  • Beckett remains in fine form: 14/44,23p, +6 in the last 14 days

The horse could still be open to progress and is 2/3,3p at the course. He won here two starts back, a shade cosily I thought, from Haunted Dream, who's franked the form somewhat by placing in three big handicaps since, inc the John Smiths Cup. Lord P was chased home by the right one there I think. He nearly won the race before that also, form that has worked out well. I'm not sure what happened at Goodwood, he ran ok, but only that. Maybe it got too soft for him, I'm not sure, but if he's to bounce back it will be here. I thought if getting back to the form of his win here in July, he'd be the one to beat. On paper there isn't much pace on and from his high draw hopefully he gets out and Rossa can amble to a prominent position, and kick on in the final 2f. If he runs his race he won't be out the places here, he just can't be. He can be buzzy in the pre-lims, usually wears a red hood/ear plugs and goes down early. Hopefully he behaves himself but I suspect his pre-race antics may be the reason for the odd dud run also but he's building up a good record, 5/16, 6p in his career so far, more to come.

Cheese The One:-

  • Trainer/jockey are 3/5,3p in last 30 days, inc on this one LTO

  • C Howarth rides this place well, 6/30,10p, +64 SP in the last year

  • Stella Barclay does very well with LTO winners... 11/38, 17p, +15, which is worth noting.

The filly... well she won in 1st time blinkers here 16 days ago and to my eyes did it a shade cosily. I thought she'd be nearly fav and was surprised to see her at 6/1. Of course the blinkers may not work again but she doesn't look ungenuine. The trainer's stats with LTO winners has lured me in also as clearly she can get them to hold their form and follow up, which isn't the easiest thing to do. And place them in the right races. The horse looks best on tapeta, with wins here and at Newcastle. If running as she did 16 days ago, and maybe building on it, I couldn't see how she wouldn't be bang there here, and arguably the one to beat on recent form. It is a C6 AW handicap of course and anything could happen, but I thought she looked value in this line up. I'll be gutted if she's out the three. She's 3/20, 5p in handicaps now which is a solid record generally, but even more so at this level.

That's all for today, good luck with your Saturday punts,

All the best,

Josh
