For Readers

Hi Friend,

Deep In the Thick of It

There is always a moment in writing when you're at a heavy part of a novel, where plot twists are happening and life is complicated for the characters and for the writer who is juggling plots and subplots.

This is where I am in revisions. I'm working hard to add descriptions and details since this is where I'm weak. I keep pushing the release date of my novel further into the future. It appears I might have it ready by next summer now. After I finish my own revisions, I have to send it to editors and revise again. But it's coming along.

I'm also in the middle of a semester with my students working on their major project, getting ready for midterms, and stressing out about grades. I'm fielding a lot of emails.

I don't mind being busy, however. Things always ease up after Thanksgiving, at least at the university and that allows me to spend more time writing.

Good News!

This Is Now is a Finalist in the 2022 Book Buyer's Best Contest!

The Orange County Romance Writers will announce the winners on October 8th!

I will take some pictures and let everyone know the results in a couple of weeks.

At Home

My poor little girl, my chihuahua had to have some dental work done. She ended up losing 15 teeth.

She was sad and in a bit of pain for a couple of days, but we babied her. She gets to eat chicken cut into tiny pieces for the next couple of weeks and she loves it.

She's also back to chasing the cats who have taken up residence in my back yard.

Focusing on Adding Details to Writing

Since I'm working on adding details to my novel, I thought you might enjoy reading my blog post on adding details to writing. Here is a part of the post:

What I’ve learned and try to put into practice when I write is that when we focus on the particulars instead of generalizations, we awaken the reader’s emotions, feelings, and senses.

Readers read a descriptive passage and if it’s well done, it might take them back to another time, a memory of when they saw, heard, or experienced something similar. Or it might stir their imagination and help them picture the experience and visualize what it might be like for the character.
