FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) hearing dates dramatically increase in wait times
Report also details settlement sites, trends

April 17, 2018 (Vancouver, BC) – IRB hearing dates have dramatically increased in wait times to approximately 12-15 months which has wide capacity implications for settlement services.

Previously, hearing wait times were estimated at less than 60 days.

These were among statistics published in the “Welcome Centre Refugee Claimants Statistical Highlights” report released today.

276 refugee claimants were recorded in the first quarter of 2018. This number is similar to the same time period in 2017 with 286 refugee claimant arrivals. Afghanistan has been the number one source country for arrivals in 2018, with the majority of clients coming as family units rather than singles.
