Barriers to Employment Workshop Join us in this informative workshop June 14, 1pm-3:30pm at Burnaby Public Library. Barriers to employment refer to obstacles when looking for work or trying to keep a job. We will cover types of barriers, strategies to overcome them, and setting realistic employment goals, which includes techniques based on one’s strengths. Free, but space is limited. Resume and Cover Letters Workshop - June 14, 9:30am-12:30pm at the ISSofBC Welcome Centre, Room 202. A free workshop for permanent residents, live-in-caregivers, naturalized Canadian citizens, refugees, refugee claimants and provincial nominees. Develop skills to create a targeted resume, learn to write strong cover letters to gain attention of local employers and get help with preparing a reference list to complete your job search tool kit. Tips for Successful Interviews Workshop - June 15, 9:30am-12:30pm at the ISSofBC Welcome Centre, Room 203. The ability to handle yourself well at an interview is a skill you can learn. Tips on interview preparation and readiness, answering common interview questions, responding to behavioural and situational questions, closing the interview and creating a lasting good impression and professional follow-up. The LES (Literacy and Essential Skills) Program for IT Professionals seeks to help newcomers in IT succeed and advance in the Canadian workplace.
