WHY?

With the unprecedented number of Syrian refugee arrivals to BC within the past year, ISSofBC took the opportunity to mark their first year in Canada by systematically probing early settlement experiences and outcomes. This process was conducted through two separate consultation initiatives, one focused on close to 60 youth, the other a survey with over 300 Syrian GAR head of households who arrived between November 4, 2015 and February 28, 2016.

Key findings to help the next wave of Syrian refugees settle in Canada will be released in a summary report in the hopes of impacting future policy and programs for refugees.

·        Chris Friesen, ISSofBC Director of Settlement Services presents key findings and settlement recommendations.

·        Findings cover areas of income security, education, housing, health, dental, mental well-being and family reunification.

·        Syrian refugees speak on settlement experiences in Canada.
