  • Approximately 1,500 GARs to arrive between October and end of December – 1,200 to Metro Vancouver, 140 to Victoria region and 150 outside these two regions;
  • Four temporary reception sites/teams have been set up within Vancouver with a three-week temporary housing goal; No indication of family composition or size going forward but arrivals to date indicate smaller sized families and more single units;
  • Plans are underway in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Development on a multi-pronged approach to transition those Syrian GARs not financially self-sufficient by the end of their first year in Canada onto province income support;
  • Minister McCallum will announce in November a multi-year immigration plan and likely higher immigration targets for all immigration categories including humanitarian class and the new GAR baseline targets for BC.
