Dear staff,
We’ve just completed two months of office closure and remote work but I’m aware it feels like it’s been longer for many of us. Talks of gradual reopening all around are creating new anxieties for many but at ISSofBC, we are committed to taking a safe and responsible approach to reopening.
Please be clear: we have not set a date for reopening. I understand that word is going around we’re reopening in June. I’m not clear if that was a misinterpretation of info or a lack of clarity of info but it is far from accurate.  Regardless of how that rumour started, it needs to stop as it serves no useful purpose except to create anxiety. Senior management is in the midst of formulating a reopening plan that places priority on your health and safety and that of clients. Your health and safety is paramount in our planning. We expect we will be able to provide more information on this at the all-staff meeting scheduled Wednesday, June 17.
It’s been quite a ride for all of us in the last two months – from the early days of developing and implementing radical adjustments to service delivery while juggling family and personal changes, to realizing in the last few weeks that work and life in general will not be the same for a long time to come. That’s quite a lot to digest and come to terms with and is clearly not a minor concern. The personal impact on each of us, given our own specific circumstances, will be felt for some time to come. Resiliency and ability to accept change will be critical as we move forward. While we don’t know specifics of what lies ahead, we do know it will be different.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again: thank you for your continued professionalism and unwavering dedication to client service in these challenging, difficult times. Regardless of whatever personal challenges you’ve had to wrestle with, you’ve all continued to show up each day to do ISSofBC proud. Your cooperation and compliance with health guidelines has also contributed to the larger community’s success in reducing the spread of the virus.

With gradual reopening in the horizon, we’ll soon be embarking on a new chapter in our work serving newcomers. We will ensure you are kept informed every step of the way. Please be mindful about not spreading unconfirmed information which creates unnecessary stress. Let’s remain kind to each other so we can prevail together. Be well and stay safe!
