A-TEAM APPS TIPS

March 28, 2022
RC Glossary, Balancer, Balancing, Batteries
LiPo batteries need to stay within a specific voltage range. If they go outside the range during charging, they may be damaged. Individual LiPo cells may become unbalanced over time, that is, the voltage of cells may differ within a single pack. For instance, one cell may have a voltage of 3.8V while the others have 4.2V. A balancer is used while charging LiPo batteries to keep them within an acceptable range while they are being charged.

A balancer keeps the voltage in your cells as equal as possible, which helps to keep the battery from over-discharging or over-charging, and helps produce the best performance from the battery. Overcharging a cell can cause it to spontaneously swell and quite possibly explode. A balancer will minimize this risk.
