RC Cheat Sheets: Pinon Gear
Fewer Teeth: more acceleration, more run time, gear ratio goes down.
More Teeth: more top speed, less run time, gear ratio goes up.
The pinion gear is attached directly to the electric motor shaft and drives the spur gear, which in turn interfaces with the transmission.
Changing the pinion gear to more or fewer teeth will make big changes to your vehicle's run time and top speed.
