I want you to picture the scene in your head. 

We are both sat on a bench shoulder to shoulder, looking out at the same scene. 

The picture I am painting today is the carnage that is a children's park, there’s kids running everywhere… 

In all directions. 

You sit down next to me and say hello, we chat, laughing and sharing our stories about parenthood and life… 

Then we both hear it… 

From across the park that blood curdling scream… 

We look at each other knowing both of our children have just hurt themselves. 

We are both scared. 

We know we’ve gotta get through this carnage. 

Without taking out any children, and then sorting out whatever issue is with our own children. 

The problem? 

You haven’t done this before, this is one of the first outings you’ve made with your fearless jackass loving toddler. 

You are scared. 

But never fear. I have run this gauntlet a few times, I know the path through this carnage. 

I know how to get to the children, without making it look like Roy Keane is back in midfield. 

Follow me I say…. 

You follow my steps, light footed missing the kids swinging in the swings, the ones trying to kill each other, the ones chasing each other with sticks. 

We arrive unfazed and unhurt. Like modern day gladiators… 

Sorting out our own children and moving on. We have conquered the gaunlet. 

This isn’t a joke. This is real life. This happens.
