Subject: I deleted 4 years of spreadsheets

best thing I ever did

Yo,

True story.

About three years ago I found an old USB stick in a kitchen drawer.

On it... four years of horse racing spreadsheets.

Hundreds of rows. Colour-coded. Filters I didn't even remember building.

I sat there for ten minutes scrolling through them.

Every single one of those spreadsheets represented a week where I thought I was getting closer.

I wasn't.

I was just getting better at spreadsheets.

Here's the bit that stung.

The data I needed to answer the actual question... does this idea work in the market... wasn't even in there.

Because I was tracking results.

Not price movement.

Not shortening. Not drifting. Not where the money came in.

Just... "did it win."

Which, if you're trading, is the wrong question.

I deleted the lot.

Not because the work was bad.

Because the tool was wrong.

If you've got your own version of that USB stick... and I'd bet money you have... maybe have a look at this before you add another row.

P.S. Four years. Hundreds of hours. All on a USB stick the size of a thumbnail.

If that doesn't sum up manual research, I don't know what does.
