There is a War Raging All Around Us! Will Our Children and Families be the Casualties?

Next year marks the 50th anniversary of the 1969 riots at The Stonewall Inn in Greenwich Village, New York – the spark that lit the fire of the modern gay rights movement in America. What has resulted in the following five decades is a takeover by a new ideology of sex and gender, with devastating effects on all sectors of our society. Gay activists have successfully convinced 14 states and over 45 localities to ban so-called “conversion therapy” for minors, while campaigns to restrict licensed psychotherapy for adults are mounting in California and New York City. Consequently, we are now embroiled in a war of ethics and morality over sexuality and gender, and the battle is being waged in our courts, our college campuses, and our counseling offices. Even our churches and synagogues are in the thick of this conflict. Tragically, our precious children and families have become the innocent casualties of this war.
How far will this war go in redefining client autonomy, self-determination, and freedom of choice? To what extent will it rewrite our laws? To what degree will it silence those who refuse to fall in line with its radical goals? Who will stand up and stop this madness?

In The War on Psychotherapy: When Sexual Politics, Gender Ideology, and Mental Health Collide, I provide a map of this unprecedented assault on personal freedom and religious liberty. Should it be illegal for a licensed mental health professional to help clients voluntarily alter their sexual orientation or gender identity? Should clinicians even be able to talk with clients that are distressed over unwanted attractions, sexual behaviors, or gender expressions and seek options for change? Will those who came out of the closet succeed in putting dissenters and strugglers in the closet? In the The War on Psychotherapy, I answer all these questions and provide meaningful solutions for counselors, legislators, and concerned citizens.
2018 Year-In-Review. In 2018, IHF expanded its outreach to individuals, families, therapists, and communities of faith! Our mission: Restoring Hope in the Hurting Home was heard throughout the country as I spoke about my new book, The Meaning of Sex: A New Christian Ethos, in conferences, churches, and throughout the media. In February, I had the opportunity to deliver a keynote address at the Weimar Institute’s Emotional Intelligence (EQ) Conference in California to a large group of Seventh Day Adventists (see photo below of me and Dr. Neil Nedley of the Weimar Institute). In October, I spoke about my new research that was published in Issues in Law

& Medicine at the annual Alliance for Therapeutic Choice and Scientific Integrity conference in Orlando, Florida. This new research will pave the way for a new book for families and training program for therapists in 2019-2020 called Healing the Family

When I wasn’t speaking at conferences, I was facilitating one-on-one counseling, conducting Healing the Family℠ intensives throughout the country, and working with IHF’s coaches in our group and family retreats. In the summer, sixteen men from across the country attended our Break-Free Your Inner Child healing retreat at Lake Anna, Virginia.
In the fall, two dozen moms and dads traveled to Hagerstown, Maryland to attend our Key to your Child’s Heart weekends for mothers and fathers, where they learned how to walk in their child’s shoes and heal their families! Throughout the year, IHF also hosted two year-long online courses for parents and families of children struggling with sexual and gender identity. All of these programs are making a huge impact while fulfilling our mission: Restoring Hope in the Hurting Home.

Will you partner with us? In 2019, IHF will expand its outreach by hiring a new female therapist to take on the overwhelming number of individuals and families that come to us for help. We will also begin a new book project and program for therapists to be trainedon our Healing the Family℠ therapy intensives. But we can’t do it without your help! Will you partner with us?
