On World Food Day, we recognize the hard work and resilience of the world’s 500 million small farms. These farmers are on the frontlines of climate change and other global challenges. And they are tasked with providing food for a population that is expected to grow to 9.6 billion by 2050.

In honor of World Food Day, Dr. Amit Roy, IFDC president and CEO, has written an opinion piece, entitled "Listen to the Farmer," which focuses on what we can learn from the smallholder farmer.

Dr. Roy will be speaking at today’s  World Food Prize Borlaug Dialogue on a panel of experts discussing “Soil Health and the Fertilizer Gap.” The day’s events will be webcast live. The World Food Prize recently conducted a Q&A with Dr. Roy, among others, in honor of the Norman Borlaug Centennial.
