Celebrating Youth in Agriculture

As part of our efforts to innovate, achieve results, and sustain impact at scale, IFDC promotes market systems development (MSD), agribusiness, climate adaptation and mitigation, last-mile input delivery, scalable technologies, ISFM, seed and fertilizer sector development, and gender and youth engagement for inclusive and sustainable resilience, agricultural development, and economic growth.


IFDC’s work in the seed sector prioritizes social inclusion, highlighting the contributions of women and youth entrepreneurs while also expanding women and youth’s involvement.

August Project Feature: 2SCALE

The Toward Sustainable Clusters in Agribusiness through Learning in Entrepreneurship (2SCALE) project is an incubator program that manages a portfolio of public-private partnerships (PPPs) for inclusive business in agri-food sectors and industries. 2SCALE is the largest incubator for inclusive agribusiness in Africa.

Meet Sisso Afi Pélagie. Pélagie is a young Beninese woman with a degree in Tropical Agricultural Studies. Thanks to her dynamism, commitment, and sense of accomplishment, Pélagie has distinguished herself in the cassava processing sector.


Promoting youth employment in Mali

IFDC and the Agricultural Learning Center (CAA) of Samanko are working to integrate young graduates into agricultural development efforts in Mali. The organizations are supporting student research, internships, training, and capacity building for growth in the country's agriculture sector.

Inclusion champions promote engagement in agriculture

To improve social inclusion, the Accelerating Agriculture and Agribusiness in South Sudan for Enhanced Economic Development (A3-SEED) project has developed a network of local “Inclusion Champions” to sustain the successes of women and youth in South Sudan’s agriculture sector.

The 2SCALE and HortiNigeria programs recently collaborated to organize a highly beneficial three-day training on vertical coordination for their respective team members, which will lead to improved efficiency in program implementation.

The Transfer Efficient Agricultural Technologies through Market Systems (TEAMS) project facilitated the development of market systems by supporting farmers, agro-dealers, and input suppliers in establishing a continuous supply network of input and output products and helping farmers increase their resilience, productivity, and production using climate-smart agriculture.


HortiNigeria Newsletter: Volume 04

The HortiNigeria program, which aims to facilitate the development of a sustainable and inclusive horticulture sector that contributes to food and nutrition security in Nigeria, recently released its fourth newsletter.


Getting the most out of fertilizer

It is essential to use fertilizer in a way that maximizes its benefits while minimizing its negative environmental impacts. IFDC has issued seven recommendations for overcoming barriers to efficient fertilizer use and encouraging farmer adoption.
